banktoturn -> Wing tip modification for trainer? (7/25/2003 7:32:48 PM)

Whirley Bird, I guess I'll be the voice of dissent here. I think that wing tip design is much LESS important than most people think. Winglets can reduce induced drag a little bit for some planes, if properly designed. Beyond that, I don't think anything you do with the wing tip design will give you a noticeable benefit. If you want to modify the tips for aesthetic reasons, or for the heck of it, go for it. Generally, I don't think you will see an aerodynamic benefit. banktoturn
