With the west 50 engine that comes with the magnum and using a 9/8 prop and 10% total synthetic fuel what kind of RPM's should I expect. I'm getting about 17500 is that good are should I get more.

Well no response on RPM question but I still have to tell some one about today.I went out this morning with this same set up and tried to fly at full throttle and could not keep up with it, just to fast for now.I was a little shaken because I knew it was fast but man this thing is really fast.Went home regrouped and went back this evening and flew twice at half speed. It's going to take awhile to get use to this kind of speed.

17,500 on a 9x8 sounds ok... But the engine will put out a lot more power if you let it rev up on a smaller prop.

If you think it is fast now... throw on an 8x8, shorten the pipe at least 1"... and hold on to you nickers

Strong,
It took me more than one plane to learn to "catch up with it", and it's not clear that I've done it even yet. Learning to use part throttle must be at least part of the answer. It's sooo tempting to crank that thing wide open and let it show off!

You did well to bring it home in ARF form! Many don't.

If you're not familiar with these speeds it sure can be intimidating at first. Good thing you have the presence of mind to throttle back a little.
Have you noticed how the engine spits out raw fuel out of the carb when running at part throttle? The intake timing on this thing is quite agressive ... I love it... I don't like planes covered entirely in oil though, so I fly WOT all the time...lol, just kidding

Rest assured though: it doesn't take long to adjust to this kind of speed, and pretty soon you will be craving for more... Within a few flights you will be fiddling with props, tachometers, pipe length and stuff like that... to wring out every last ounce of speed...
At least, I know I am...

I just got home from flying today- I swap between my Magic and my Patriot (weird combo huh?)

The Patriot has a Jett-50, and a 9x8... So it moves pretty well but I am going to have to blow some of my bonus check on a Magnum combo-

I cannot take it- knowing so much speed is out there to be had!
Some guy was at the field with his 4*40 (I love those also..) and he said "Have you have that thing radar-ed?" I said nuh-uh- he said it was hauling a$$.... The problem is I am "used to it"- I love my Patriot and that Jett-50 but of course I want more!

At least the Magnum looks like a plane- those deltas are tempting but after reading the 1,000 th post about the Magnum- I have to do it...(some guy was neck and neck with a turbine?)

Ahhh that feels better! Just accept it.... yeah....uh-hu
