I just ordered a Zenoah G-26. I am gathering items for the plane it's going on and was wondering if anyone is using the stock muffler on their G-26. Is it total crap, or is it a good muffler? I want to tap whatever muffler I use to accept smoke.

Please tell me your experiences with any type of stock/aftermarket muffler on the G-26 or G-23 for that matter.

I have one on my Hangar 9 Cessna ARF, and I use the one that came with my G-62 on my Super Flyin' King. Both are good, not great, just good.

Negatives: a little restrictive and lowers power output compared to open exhaust and some aftermarket "mufflers", most of which are much louder.

Positives: light, very quiet, fits perfectly, inexpensive (it comes free with the engine!)

As for smoke, make sure you aim the fluid under pressure toward the hottest part of the muffler, probably the center baffle.

G23 with stock muffler and APC 18X8 @ 6500rpm, without muffler 7200rpm on same prop. I think that tells enough. See if you can get a less restrictive muffler in the plane. Look at Bennett's web site. Bisson and others make much better mufflers than the stock one.
