I'm looking to see if someone has used an after run oil that has not ruined the seals on the YS?
Dave reccomends his own after run oil, but i'm not sure i wan't to order only oil.
Does Mobil 1 synthetic work well?

I would not risk it with Mobil 1 synthetic. Automotive synthetics are not soluble in RC fuels. Either use Dave's after run oil or don't use anything at all.

I use Dave's after run oil with great results.

I too only ordered oil, so with the shipping to Canada the price was a bit high. But it is still less expensive than a premature bearing failure due to rust....

I used Mobil 1 0W-20 for a while with no ill effects. The oil needed to be expelled from the engine before it would start, which meant a bit more cranking on the first flight of the day, but that's all.

I've quit using afterrun in my YS engines. I drain the tank, run the engine completely dry, close the carb, let off the residual tank pressure and put the plane away. Been doing this for the past two years with no problems - and in my climate that's saying something.

I've used Mobil 1 synthetic and it works just fine. I assemble all my YS's with Mobil 1. Some have sat for a year... no problems and seals still OK. There shouldn't be any fuel in the engine if you dry run the engine, and you need to dry run before you apply an after run oil. I don't know if Mobil 1 is soluble in alcohol and nitro, but I don't see how that matters anyway since there should be no fuel in the engine. If anything, that shoud be a good thing because it would form a barrier between the metal and the fuel that shouldn't be there... if that makes sense.

I don't bother with after run oils. Just dry run. Never rusted a bearing yet. Some engines 4 years old. I burn about 45 gallons of glow fuel a year, typically into mainly just one engine (YS140L.) But my engines do sit all winter. That's when I rebuild and dump in Mobil 1 synth... think it is 30wt, but not sure. Would have to go home and look at bottle.

I have used automotive synthetic for after run oil in my YS for two years now and it runs perfect!

Like Visioneer_one, I do not and never have ran afterun in my YS motors. Run dry after the last flight of the day and you are good to go. I've had 1 bearing failure and that was on a YS-45 that was my first ys and that was after 8 years. This motor was either at idle or 15k. Nothing in between. I've never had a mechanical failure on any of my 4 strokes(except when it hit the ground ).

thanks for all your responces. i don't even know if it is worth the trouble to use the after run oil. i think maybe it would be very important for long term storage, if so i'll use the mobil 1. if i remember right dave really doesn't even reccomend to use the it.

i guess you have convinced me.
