Well. that just goes to show ya' that AMA can do some things right!
Now if only Dist V members could get it right and make Tony their DVP......
It's no wonder that we so often see incumbents running unopposed. Gotta be discouraging for any prospective candidates to see a smart, capable challenger like Tony lose an election to the ilk of McNeill. I hope he goes on to prove the last time was just a fluke.

You are right, Dave Brown did show some class. From those I have talked to most of the people on the AMA EC are from that cloth. Except for the occasional threat of physical violence from one, most are worth way more than we pay them and do not deserve all the flack we send their way.

Tony deserves the award and I am glad he got it.

Tony,

Congratulations on being inducted into the Hall of Fame, I can't think of anyone more deserving.

As to the award being presented by Dave Brown though, and not your DVP, I was Chairman of the group that recently formallized the HoF award procedures and we made it perfectly clear that in order to preserve the prestige of the award it was to be presented by the President of the AMA unless the awardee asked for it to be presented by someone else or the Presidents schedule prevented it being awarded in a timely manner. So, unless you specifically asked for McNeil to present the award, AMA was only following established procedures.

Welcome to RCU, Mr. McNeil.

I've been waiting to ask you several questions in a public forum since you called me on the telephone last fall and refused to answer them to "my face". . . . . .

Here they are, are you ready??

1) Please tell me how long you have been flying RC airplanes, or any type of model aircraft for that matter. Which ones specifically, and approximately how many flights per year? How recently? Flights made on a trainer cord do not count.

2) Please name one person that has personally seen you fly an RC airplane (off of a buddy cord). I will drive to Birmingham to witness it myself. If you do not fly RC, that is fine, then tell me what kind (CL, FF) and when the last time you flew one.

3) Name one program or goal you have for the members of District V.

4) Name one other leadership position that you have EVER held in or out of modelling.

5) What is your relevant electronics experience that qualifies you to hold the position of Frequency Coordinator?

6) Are you going to personally congratulate Tony Stillman for being appointed to the AMA Hall of Fame in MY District V VP column in MY AMA magazine?

7) What do the initials JR (as it relates to model airplanes) stand for. (I'll give you a hint - it's not "Junior"

Wow, I think I will soon run out of my alloted text space here. I'll think of a few more today while I'm out FLYING.

Again, Mr. McNeil, I'm very happy to see you participating here on RCU and hope that you are anxious to answer the questions of your "constituents" in District V.

Mr. McNeil,

It is shameful that you are trying to hide behind "procedure" now that eyebrows have been raised over this issue. As an elected "leader", you should have been right there shaking Tony's hand, or at the least making the announcement.
I'm sure that there is nothing in the "procedure" that prohibited you from being there. I am also sure that there is nothing in the "procedure" that prevented you from standing there next to Tony shaking his hand for a picture to put in the AMA Magazine, either.
You sure missed a "photo op" . . . .

To add to Ken Hoard's list of questions I have a few of my own.

1) How many of your present AVPs are what we would term active modelers, by that I mean are presently engaged in building and flying models of some type, attend AMA meets occasionally as a participant, train others.

2) Out of 19 AVPs why is it that only 6 (and one of those passed away nearly 6 months ago) have contributed to your web page?

3)What instructions have you given your AVPs in regard to their duties. Do these reflect what is outlined in the Membership Manual.

4) With 20,000 members in your district to draw from how do you justify making a non-AMA member (at the time) a contest coordinator. In addition, did you in fact give that individual Leader Member status as required to serve in the position?

5)What was your motivation for becoming a life member in a SIG in which you have never participated?

6) How do you differentiate between making AVPs of some people that have run against you in elections and firing others who have done so?

7) Out of your annual budget what proportion has gone to your AVPs for expenses they may have incurred in representing you in the District?

8) From your rebuttal letter to Norm Deputy in the 1998 election published in the Dixie Aeromasters Newsletter.
" Anyone experienced in AMA matters knows the relationship between a Dist. VP and his Associate Vice Presidents is generally based on trust and a long friendship."
How long did you know Lyman Slack before you made him an AVP?

9) Why, at the largest modeling show (Perry Swap Meet) in your district, has the AMA sent people from Muncie to man the AMA booth, rather than manning it with some of your AVPs or volunteer members. Why was there no AMA booth at all this year when the show broke all attendance records?

10) Please comment the status of programs promised over the past half dozen years?
a) "I have just started a District Newsletter on E-Mail. I am using Juno. My E-MAIL address is:Juno-JimMcNeill-AMA-L-2. If you would like to receive a District Newsletter on your computer mail me your E-MAIL address."
b)"My secret (web site) plan is to show 1 page for each of the 318 clubs in my District that want me to. I will group them by states.
c)"committee of 3 has been developed here in Birmingham and are creating a Model Show beginning in Jan or Feb of next year in the old Fairgrounds buildings."
d) Your "Who's who in District V" book and what was the cost for Muncie to put it together.

We look forward to your comments to these questions.
