mlcasmey -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/26/2003 5:15:35 AM)

Anyone using an exhaust diverter in the C30 to get the oil mess going down instead of on everything aft of the motor?

Mike.

Yes: I use one.

yep, me too.

Guys, thanks for the help. I really love the caliber. I've put a couple of tanks thru her hovering around and getting the linkage adjusted for a no trim required hover.

I do have two gripes. One is: How do you get fuel in and out of this tank without taking the body on and off all the time?. Have you run the fuel lines back behind the body to a fueling port of some kind? Second: How do you adjust the mixture without taking the body on and off?

Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the body, but I now see that it makes servicing and tuning very difficult.

I have been wanting to ask the same question.
I currently use a quick fueler. But i am still concerned
about it allowing air in the fuel system.
Maybe some of the guys Vortexgen,flyboy,davidj and
a few other experienced helli flyer's will give us input
and maybe some pic would be nice.

I up graded to the FT body and it does allow a little more room
for adjustments and looks ok. one could modify the stock
canopy. Take alook at davidj photo gallery for his modified
stock canopy.

I am temporarily using the stock canopy I did cut it down,
made life alot easier.
easy access to fuel and engine

Temps -> NO room (7/28/2003 3:09:47 AM)

heres mine and i also use a deflector but once you start hovering higher (out of ground effect ) itll stay a lot cleaner

davidj -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/28/2003 6:04:11 AM)

Look in my gallery at the last pic. It shows the hole I cut the same size as the one for the exhaust. Since then I have cut the skirts off from the canopy to help reduce weight.

davidj, do you have a template of that smoked windsheild? That looks so much better than the decal. I painted mine but yours looks even better.

Thanks guys. I just never occurs to me to modify something from the factory. I don't know what makes me think that every factory design is perfect. A couple of well placed holes would be perfect and easier than adding some complex plumbing.

David, the header tank looks great, did you make the bracket or use an existing one?

PS, what are the little yellow boots an the skids?

Burned another tank hovering today and only scared myself twice. It was hard enough learning to hover these things when I was sitting inside, and only 22.

Mike.

davidj -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/28/2003 7:54:40 AM)

The smoked windshield is a raptor 60 windshield. IT DOES NOT WORK. The servo arms contact the widshield. I did it and then found out it would not work. The header tank is from Heliproz and the yellow skid stops are rubber skid stops.

shocker -> fuel line problems (7/28/2003 9:02:10 AM)

heres the fix put a century hawk body on the caliber works prefect i did look in my gallery

MooseLoad -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/28/2003 9:05:40 AM)

I took a allen bolt, cut off the head...a little JB weld onto the needle valve with a strategically cut hole in the fuse and I can access the needle valve with my wrench with ease (where the black gromet is on the fuse) ) As far as the plumbing, I simply put the header tank as far back on the frame as I could by attaching it with the tail support screw and using a KSJ filter...the fuel clip is barely inside the fuse and can also be easily accessed.
Everyone says the caliber is an ugly beast but personally I think it looks pretty cool...especially when I dress it up with my squadron patch :-)

MooseLoad -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/28/2003 9:06:17 AM)

Here is one without the canopy...

shocker -> heres the fix (7/28/2003 8:21:41 PM)

heres the fix for all your caliber body problems can reach everything without removing body and looks great.look in my gallery pic too big to post.started out white ended up yeller :D

mlcasmey -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/28/2003 9:13:42 PM)

Hey Mooseload, that fuel clip you have. DOes it have some kind of one way valve that lets fuel go back into the tank but not forward into the carb when your fueling?

I bought a JR filter with 3 ports but the only way I can keep fuel from going both ways is to pinch the line up to the carb while I'm filling the tank.

PS What's your Squadron? I'm an Army Helo puke, just went over 22 years.

Mike.

mlcasmey: It's nice to have so many guys trying to help.
Gee so many ideals.(Nice) Still need some input on the refueling and fuel line setup. LOL
The way MooseLoad is setup he has to pinch the line going to
the carb. He has a FUELING TEE with a built in filter no check valve. A one way check valve couldnt work. The tanks are
pressurized and would keep the valve colsed at all times
and engine wouldnt get fuel. LOL

shocker: Did that century hawk canopy bolt right on ?
Did you have to make any adjustments. It looks nice.
How much does the century hawk canopy cost ?

MooseLoad -> C30 exhaust diverter? (7/29/2003 4:09:46 AM)

I have a KSJ fuel clip that is connected to the plug on my fill line that pinches the carb line while fueling...not sure of the part number...sorry. As far as the squadron, I'm a loadmaster(if ya hadn't figured that out by the name) in the 17th Airlift Squadron.
May have hauled yer toys at some time Mike...never know...

Pete

caliber 30 refuelling thread from the past.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tm.asp?m=707651

some people say the fuel cock can get stuck, but i have not yet expereienced it in the 6 caliber 30s flying out here with the same setup.

The photo is older, now i have a header tank etc etc, but the fuel cock has remained the same and makes life easy..

mlcasmey -> C30 exhaust diverter? (8/1/2003 5:35:15 PM)

Just to keep things simple I decided to remove the lower body on both sides, still looks great and provides better access to the tank. A fuel clip a and plug attached to a three port filter from Heli-World was cheap and easy.

Thanks, for all the suggestions.

Mike.

Sunday Flyer52 -> C30 exhaust diverter? (8/21/2003 10:20:57 PM)

Hi Guys: The Calibre is my first chopper and wanted to comment on the fueling and needle adjustment issues. I used a short piece of threaded rod with a flat spot filed and inserted in the needle valve as it has a set screw to allow an extension to be added. Then a lenght of inner nyrod t(yellow) threaded onto the threaded rod. CA holds it firmly to allow adjustment of the needle. Then eyeball a hole with the canopy on to line up with the needle valve and drill a hole to allow the nyrod to extend outside. Cut it off to a suitable short length outside the canopy and it has some flexibility to allow canopy removal without affecting the needle setting. Works great,
As for refueling, I had a quick fill device and made a small aluminum bracket and attached it to the right rear of the frame between the top and bottom frame bolts. It is a 2 line device, flipping up allows filling the tank, flipping down allows fuel from tank to get to the engine. Nice and neat, no leaks and no body removal required. Thought you might be interested.

VT,

and an OS 50! you may need several header tanks :D

good pic, tho, thanks

ps- the review on the 50 conversion was great, we all owe you a "thanks"...or a pint of sumthin...like 30%? :D
