JMO, it's not bad though the air scoop is outsized by the rest of the cowl. It needs to be enlarged to match the scale of the rest of the cowl or removed all together

OK I'll try a larger one this weekend. H J, I posed a question on the previous page about nitro engine size and altitude. For instance in the airplane world if your at sea level and the plane requires a 70 size four stroke , where I live the altitude is 4,800 ft so we would go up an engine  to a 90. to have the power to fly, Are marine similar in this aspect ?

To be honest, I don't really know. I know you will need to set the tuned pipe and needle differently than what I would at 75 feet above sea level. I think in this case, you will need to experiment

cpt nj  that boat looks pretty good for being 30! I like the cowl. keep in mind that its your model and you can make it any way you want, just have fun with it man!

I'm curious, now  what size engine were you planning on using again???
Will this be a fun boat or do you intend on racing at sanctioned events?
Thats a 37 inch hull weighing in empty at around five pounds empty, around 8.5 pounds would be a decent guess at RTR weight. A modern .45-.46cc can easily move a 8 pound hull around speed upwards of 50+mph. A .67 I feel would be pushing it (probably in a fast way!) and a .90 would be OVERKILL!
Another thing is who was the hull manufactuer? I've seen plenty of canard hull digging their front noses into the water cause of anything from improper strut adjustment to the front "skid" built too shallow...
These hulls perform really well once trimmed out and they are unique & cool looking too.

Theres a video on you tube of the Elam taking off like an airplane during testing, the landing looked like it hurt...  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkORV-DZKpU

RJ that hurts me even watching that video, OUCH ! I am the designer of this model R/C boat with a slight case of plagerisim ,courtesey of Circus Circus. As for engine choice I'm getting as much imput from you guys as I can befor I make a decision, I'm entertaining the idea of having an experinced compitition boat pilot put her through her paces . Know anybody ?
PS if she runs well I'll use her as a plug and make a few fiber glass hulls, and perhaps lose a few pounds.

No, I don't know of anybody personally. But I'm sure there may be clubs in your area down where your at.
Check in with the IMPBA   http://www.impba.net/index.php?option=com_htmlmap&view=htmlmap&id=1&tmpl=index&Itemid=68  and you may find some people close to home.
This is a cool hobby and if it wasn't for experimentation we wouldn't be where we are at right now, right guys?

.40- size boats generally run .187" cable.  I've seen .67 boats running .187 and .250 successfully.  Both square drive and collet.  What you run may depend on how tight the bends in the cable need to be.  And the bend radius could be dependent on where you need to place your engine to achieve the desired CG.  Not to confuse the issue...

There is nothing "gay" about those pictures. I have a coworker that is gay and he's not interested in boats or working out as C.K.Y. has shown in those pictures.

I agree . that is why I was surprise that cap nj made that remark. I wish I still had some of the pictures of me when I was a young lad with my boat that I had in the seventy's and eighty's. I think it's pretty cool that CKY share some of those pictures with us

I like it, he likes them younger. My only concern is that she may be too cute for you, c.k.y.
