I recently had to repair the windshield on a hog bipe.

First I removed the original, and cut a new one the same shape. Poked holes where original holes were, and put in place. I temporarily held it in place with blue painter's tape. Then I cut a small (like 1/4") strip of covering, ran it across the joint between the fuselage and the windshield. It was wide enough to cover the nails. And eliminates any wind seaping through the gap. Looks good too.

BTW.. I can't take credit for the idea.. RCKen, resident Hog Bipe expert, gave me the idea.

I'll post another picture tonight when I get home tonight.

I use plain old goop from home depot. Put it on with a bamboo scewer or toothpick .tape with blue tape till dry . If there is any excess you can rub it off with you fingers

I glues mine directly to the covering with Pacer canopy glue. Add a screw in the corners and finish with a piece of black pinstripe. Going on 2 yrs without issue.

I cut my windshield from an empty 2 liter soda bottle. It bends easier and will not fight you like the kit supplied material.

I use tape and rc56 windshield glue.

The windshield was installed after the covering. My technique did not require cutting the covering for glue. The windshield was attached with small screws. As you can see in the pics, I used adhesive trim tape to position and hold the windshield. Small screws were added for a secure hold. The black trim around the edge of the windshield is the insulation from home wiring. I had some scraps that used black insulation for the ground. I tried to cut it as straight as possible to keep it from twisting when added to the edge of the windshield. I ran a bead of clear "windshield" adhesive on the inside of the insulation. Not much. Didn't want it to spooge out onto the windshield. I chose the red trim tape to match the Ultracote red (yea, that's some old Ultracote red paint on the cowl - nice to have a well stocked hobby store).

HTH,

I took the last three pics today (about 1 year after the original build). Note the outer edge of the windscreen. I has small scratches / cracks perpendicular to the trailing edge of the windshield. No clue why.

Cut the windshield as per the template on the plans (I made mine just slightly smaller). Cut a piece of small diameter cockpit coaming and glue the windshield in the slit in the coaming with RC 56 canopy glue. Poke holes in the covering where the assembly will go, glue it down with more RC 56 wiping the edge carefully. Finally, put small screws in the corners - I use brass screws as they look nicer.

Enjoy your HogBipe!

Seamus..

Those look like servo screws holding the windshield.. I Like that a whole lot better then tiny nails.. Much more control.

Yea they are. I replaced all of my Philips head servo screws with hex head servo screws. Sooooo, I found a use for a couple of the servo screws with their nice flanged head. Kinda long but no big deal.
