Made some 1/32" plywood side panels under the windscreen, trimmed the can-o-pee, started the beginnings of the "Flathead Frankenstein" gun hood.

I gotta admit... It's starting to look pretty wicked.

Thanx Bro! Gotta get back on the cockpit, make the sun visor for the instrument panel and finish up a few more fitting details in there.

Man this thing is turning out so nice. I better cool it with the details or Pandi is going to kill us at the scale meets.

So... I got all the gear door parts made now and I'm starting to trim everything up. Pretty happy with how nice and flat they lay down. I'm thinking I should get the gear leg doors mounted before final trimming of the inner belly door.

Man I'm itchy!!!

Here is the fiddly little bracket I had to make to support the bottom of the lower gear door. Grrrr!

Bear with me as I work this all out... I counter-sunk the screws that hold the brass bracket so the doors lay flush. I had to grind off a little of the strut as well.

Started locating and drilling the lower gear door mounting holes. I cut a plywood inner liner from the supplied kit doors. I'm thinking I should glass the door liner to seal everything up nice.

This is gonna look great!

Gear doors are final trimmed, drilled and the inner plywood liner installed using polyurethane glue. It's really amazing how the 1/32" plywood stiffens up the gear doors. I glassed the plywood just to seal the wood for finishing.

Keep the template for these. I've been known to nick a few of these.

The lower big door will be functional when I'm finished and slide up when the oleo is compressed. You won't nick these unless you loose a tire or nose over.

I still have to machine the slot in the lower door and make some small threaded stand-off's for the strut brackets. More on that later tonight.

Here's my idea to attach the gear doors.... I sheened this little 1/4" diameter coupler and threaded it with a 4-40 tap. I can now use a 4-40 screw to attach the door.

Relax Pandi.... They are not silver hollow points. LOL!!

Update... Here are the gear doors mounted for the first time. I turned all the little stand-offs down to .200 diameter to match the gear door clamps. I also left them all a bit too long for adjustment at final assembly.

You might ask... Why all the trouble, just use a brass tube as a sleeve? Well... With a brass tube over the screws you would have crank down on the screws to tighten the strut door clamps thus crushing the gear doors. Capiche?

Pretty proud of my new sheening efforts.

Maybe we can use a piece of fuel tubing between the standoff and the gear door for a shock mount? hmmm?

We should get some 4-40 countersunk screws and counter sink the gear doors so the screws sit flush.
