I own one of these and nowhere in the literature does it talk about trickle charge, however on the charger it says pulsed trickle. Does this kick in after the charge is done or what???

According to Tim Marks, after a preprogrammed NiCD preset has completed charging it will pulse at a rate of 1/100th of the pack capacity.
However, I have yet to confirm this beyond suspicion. To the best of my knowledge Red has not confirmed this either.

I have two 250Ss and I love'em-even if they don't trickle charge!

My instructions do briefly mention trickle charge. On page 2 under specifications-output capabilities. I have never used it as such so I have no personal experience. I charge everything with the SuperNova or my Sirius.

I did hook up my recording VOM to mine after it completed a charge and it does occasionally send a pulse of voltage. I don't know how often it does it. If I think about it I'll try to check it out again when I get a chance.

The instructions tell me that the supernova switches from charge to trickle at the completion of the charge cycle. It does this in both Manual and Automatic mode. However the readout shows no indication of the trickle state. the readout will show the charge rates and the letter "F' toindicate that charging has finished.

The Super Nova does not trickle after charge. The Super Turbo does. I have found a few things that FMA claims on the Super Nova that it does not do. Trickle is just one of them.

This statement alarmed me as I own a Supernova. The only indication I have that it does trickle is in the instructions and on the face plate of the unit.

So, the obvious thing to do is phone FMA, which I did. Here is the answer from FMA.

"
The SuperNova does go into Trickle charge. You will not be able to see this mode because the charger is a pulse charger.

Sorry, that answer is a crock. Red has test equipment to record the output, no matter how small or how the output is regulated and his test equipment from a previous thread showed 0 mah output after the charge is terminated.

Even if the outout is pulsed, it would be detected. The unit does not go into trickle after the charge is terminated.

I'm telling you that it I have seen the pulse. I'm hooking a recorder up to mine now and will know after the initial charge is finished. I checked it once before but don't remember the voltage or the time interval of the pulse.

Ok, here are my results. I am seeing a short approximately 15ma pulse about every 10 seconds after finishing a manual charge cycle. My meter won't measure the pulse accurately but there is definitely something going out every 10 seconds or so.

Well, we have one person who says the supernova does not trickle. Everybody else, including the supplier says it does. who do we believe?

Red also says it does not trickle. Personally, I'll believe Red as he is the known expert. Also, the pulse that was mentioned above is so low and so seldom that it will not maintain a charge on even a small battery. So eve if the pulse is there, that trickle rate is useless.

This is my last comment on this subject.

I again pressed FMA to respond to the claim that the Supernova did not trickle. This is the response from FMA.

>>You are not a nusiance. If I had questions, I would want the supplier to answer them as well. I have again confirmed that the SuperNova 250S does go into trickle charge.
I am sorry if you are not getting correct information from Mr. Chapkis online, but my answer was not a "crock"
I did go to our Technical Department and I also went to Fred Marks.
I hope this helps. <<

I believe Red originally said in his review that
he could not measure it w/ the equipment
he was using. That means just that and the
pulse could certainly have been there but
was not visible.

Thanks Ed & Scott,
I like knowing that the two chargers I use the most because of their versitility and information output are doing what I paid for and was lead to believe by ADs/literature and Tim Marks himnself.
(That's a little wordy but, it says exactly what I mean )
