the FS-C engines are designed for high rpm use. 17.000 is no problem.

In actual fact the 40fs-c is rated at .9hp@17500rpm, max rpm 21000.

I'd LOVE to hear one of those engines, the sound must be fantastic. I have a .30 and a .52 four stroke airplane engine, and thinking about what they would sound like at almost twice the rpm...

Sandal.
At those sort of rpm, it sounds a bit like a YS63 at full chat, as it happens we are running a YS63 silencer ! It fits a treat.
Cheers

Just dug this one out again, the motor has changed owner and we have done some more prop testing on 10% fuel.

15000rpm on an APC 10x3 with an idle of around 3000rpm and suberb transition, the new owner is very pleased!

C means car, also designed for modelcar...

10x3 15000 = 0.723 (better effect)

Graupner 8x6 16000 = 0.719 HP

Master 8x4 17400 = 0.617 HP

Futaba1024,

Can you provide a picture of the engine? I have the aero version but the 'C' model is obviously different.

Can someone say what is different internally to allow such high RPMs?

Really stiff valve springs, larger exhaust port and different cam profile. The straight intake manifold helps too, rather than the 90 degree updraft airplane type.

The 40c also has OS52 valves, here is a photo of the CX which has the recoil starter, the model we used was the C, same motor but with standard backplat

Had originally built this motor fro a pal of mine, by swapping out the car crankshaft for the aircraft type with prop driver.

Subsiquently it has had one more owner and a twin needle carb fitted, have just bought it back from the last owner, still in mint condition!

Think they are out of production now.......... May be worth quite a bit on Ebay or I could find a plane for it.

Cheers
