Ed -> 605 servos ? (7/26/2003 10:33:03 PM)

MIKE :

Why do your 605 servos have such a poor reputation ?

Are they, or are they not " RELIABLE " ?

I am not too concerned about centering, but I am concerned about RELIABILITY !

adrian-RCU -> 605 servos ? (7/26/2003 11:05:33 PM)

for the buck, the best , only the bad centering bothers a bit, never had a failure.

Geistware -> 605 servos ? (7/27/2003 12:31:24 AM)

I use them on throttle and rudder applications and not elevator and aileron applications. The poor centering don't seem to bother the applications that I use it in.

I have a damage airplane because of those servos. Anybody wanna buy some barely used 605's?

Geistware -> 605 servos ? (7/28/2003 2:57:52 AM)

How did the servos damage the plane?

rc-sport -> 605 servos ? (7/28/2003 6:27:30 AM)

I had 2 605's on the elevators, I made a loop and when I released the elevator stick to level out the plane one servo did not return to center and caused the plane to pitch left and down. I was only about 15' off the ground and didn't have time to correct with the ailerons. The plane hit the ground and tore out the gear and damaged the firewall and cowl. I checked the controls when I got home and sure enough one servo would neutralize about a 1/2" from center. And after further inspection and testing I discovered that all the servos would not center properly. I know these servos are cheap but this much slop is unexeptable. I have Futaba 3003 that center better and cost half as much.

Geistware -> 605 servos ? (7/31/2003 6:54:18 AM)

I guess that is why I stopped using these servos on Ailerons and Elevators. If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased other servos!

It just goes to show the old saying "You get what you pay for", really holds true.

Here's another persons view on the same subject.

Sorry Mike but I it doesn't change my mind. I have 5 605's on a Top Flite Stinson Reliant and that plane doesn't even come close to 3D flying, it hasn't even done a loop, but when you come out of a gentle turn and the plane pitches violently to one side there is a centering issue. My Staudacher was my first 1/4 scale aerobatic plane, my flying isn't what you would call 3D. None of my control surfaces are at maximum deflection but I do like to use alot of elevator and rudder throw just in case. I found that the surfaces would end up a 1/2" out of trim when moving them around, do you know what that means on a plane with 40% of the tail moving. It meant disaster for me. Sure you could say " So why did you fly it that way?" but what I am asking myself is why did I buy these? I should have just thrown $300.00 out the window, at least I would still have my Staudacher.

Obviously there was a problem with at least one of the servo you have. It they were all as bad as you say they would not be so popular and others would not be defending them.

I'm curious what horns you were using and how your linkage was set up.

Mike.

rc-sport -> 605 servos ? (8/1/2003 11:34:17 PM)

I purchased the Dubro large scale horns, I didn't want to use the ones that came with the servos. The linkage was 4-40 rods, about 5" long with metal clevices. The linkage was tight. As far as the servo's popularity goes I see alot more complaining then I complimenting. Why don't you post a poll on The Clubhouse to get real opinions.

PigMan Buggerus -> 605 servos ? (8/1/2003 11:42:49 PM)

I haven't had a problem with mine.

Have them on elevator and ailerons, no problems. No centering issues that I am aware of either.

john316 -> 605 servos ? (8/2/2003 2:02:56 AM)

I'll second that! If something is working as expected, why would any one want to sound off in a forum, I mean don't we all expect these servos to work as advertised? It's only those that have a problem that complain. RC_Sport, why not send those servos in and have Hitec look at them and find out what is going on , it sounds like something much more serious than a centering issue if you are that far off. I am curious to know what is going on myself.

Jemo -> 605 servos ? (8/2/2003 2:50:10 AM)

The centering on the 605's isn't perfect, But 1/2" out ????????

Sounds like something else may be wrong.

rc-sport -> 605 servos ? (8/2/2003 10:53:38 PM)

I have them ready to ship to off to Hitec but I don't expect much in response. I tried the servos on different receivers and a different radio, my 9C is at Futaba right now to make sure everything is OK. I even sent Futaba the receiver that was is my plane to make sure the issue isn't with it. I got the same results of centering with 2 other receivers. I wouldn't mind so much about the centering issue if I had only one on the elevators but the elevators are split. I don't have to tell you guys what happens when one side centers and the other doesn't.

Here you go.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/tm.asp?m=208540

As you can see the 605 is a popular servos and works well for most people. Obviously you either had a defective servo or there is a good chance that the du-bro horn slipped on the output shaft; I have heard of that before.

Please send the servo in and we can check it out for you.

Mike..
