Don't know how to spell it in Russian but here in Australia we call it swarf and its a strong case for getting the back plate off and rinsing the engine with kerosene before even turning the prop over.




As I said, my own experience was 20 years ago but, at the time, I remember thinking that it wasn't swarf, and that some kind of paste (running in compound) had been purposely put into the engine. I think it the exhaust gunge appeared to contain a gooey substance... But it's a long time ago, and such paste could well be something that was used at a certain period, but not throughout the whole production time...


Ah! How soon we forget! At one stage everyone knew about this stuff.

The paste sounds like Cosmoline, a very effective anti-corrosive dating back to WW2. Whole Aeroplanes, Tanks etc were coated in it for ocean journeys, and you can still (I'm told by Doctor Google) buy "new" Soviet era rifles that have been soaked in it for rust protection.

I once took possession of an Indian made Rockwell Hardness Tester that had been similarly soaked in the evil stuff. It took ages to get it off and into working condition. It didn't subsequently rust however.

A decent soak in a jar of Kerosene should clean up a model engine just fine.

Status: offline 		Just found some old pictures of my MK-16 engines. The first version had a 4-screw front housing. The MK-17 also had a glo version.
