Hello,
Anybody tried converting a weedwacker engine to an ariplane engine? I'm about to give it a go and was wondering if anybody else had tried this.

The number of these engines that have been converted to model use is in the thousands I'm sure.
I've got two of them myself converted from McCulloch weedwhackers. It's easy to do yourself if you have access to, or have a friend who can do some simple machining for you.
Mainly, it's just a matter of turning the cooling fins off the flywheel and having him make a prop adapter. The rest of it you can do with simple hand tools.

This is becoming more and more common. There are several outfits that specialize in these conversions: Paragon, Carr Precision, RCIgnition, B&B, Jag, RS Engines. You could do a search on these and get LOTS of information. I just finished converting a 25cc weedwhacker and a 45cc chainsaw engine. Haven't run them yet, but my expectations are good. Did the machining myself: cut down the flywheel and made the prop adapter. You can buy an already-converted engine, buy a conversion kit, or send your parts to be converted or machined. Be advised that some of the conversions are not so good in the power/weight department. Floater-type planes with generous wing area are typical applications. Good Luck!
