zimkzimm -> Books on Ariplane design (12/3/2002 10:03:25 PM)
Hello, Does anybody know of any good books out there on model airplane design? I want to try designing my own shortly here, probably a big gas plane, and want to start reading up on design theory and what not. Thanks, Kurt

There is a long list of R/C books on my web page, several of which cover aircraft design. I my opinion, the best is "Basics of R/C Model Aircraft Design : Practical Techniques for Building Better Models" by Andy Lennon. If you click on the name of the book, it will take you to a summary of the book with links to reviews and comments of the selected book and you can order it online.

A more basic book is DESIGNING MODEL AIRCRAFT by Peter Miller published by Traplet. Eventually you will want Andy Lennons book but you may want to start with Millers one first.

When it gets down t putting the plans on paper... you always end up using a bit of the "TLAR" method. (That Looks About Right)
After having seen designs that succeded... if it looks right, it'll probably fly OK. (and a lot that doesn't look right will fly anyway if given sufficient power... )
A website that has a bit of a "primmer" on design: http://webpages.charter.net/rcfu/ Follow the links: "Hints Tips and Helps" then "Practical Model Airplane Design"
