I need some help guys. This is a new engine. Set needles at 1 1/2, sensor was all the way counter clockwise. Would not start at idle. Finally started at 1/2 throttle , but only with an electric starter. Runs very smooth from 1/2 to full throttle, but quits immediately when throttling down past 1/2 throttle. This is very frustrating. Any ideas??
Thanks,
Fred

Fred,
Check that the throttle butterfly is opening correctly. The screw head on the throttle shaft should be facing into the engine when at idle or closed position. If the carburetor was removed be sure that all pulse holes are properly aligned with the carb and gaskets so that the carb pump can operate.
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the tip. I checked my butterfly and the screw head is showing with the plate closed. I'm in the process of reversing it. Hope this does the trick. I'll let you know. Pump seems to be working on the carb, when choked , I get plenty of gas coming out the carb.
Thanks,
Fred

Yes, if you can see the screw head when closed, it is opening backwards...
Thanks,

Mike!! You are the best!!!
Did everything you suggested, this engine is a whole new animal. Starts very easily and idles down where you can almost count the blades. AWESOME!! Can't believe that little butterfly could make such a difference. Thanks so much for your input, can't wait to get the MB 5 in the air.
Thanks again ,
Fred

Both needles set at 1 1/2 turns, pickup sensor all the way over.
Transition when running is instantaneous, engine runs very smooth, using a 24x10 Zinger for breakin, 40 to 1 mix Lawnboy ashless.

Just started my new 80 yesterday. What a *****cat! Starts easy and is very predictable. I'm running on Penzoil with a Mejzlik 26X10 with the cowl off and in two tanks of gas I have already picked up 300 RPM. Will even idle down to 1600 RPM at this stage of the break in. This is going to be a fun engine! BTW, I have had an RCS-1.40 for the last two years that I have enjoyed too. Looks like I'm going to have to put my airplane in harms way tomorrow and do a first flight.
