Ground Zero-RCU -> YS on the test stand vs in the plane? (7/27/2003 10:52:53 AM)

I am currently trying to set up a couple of YS engines.Since these are my first YSs, I am having a hell of a time getting them to idle on the planes. To make tuning easier I have removed them and will try adjusting them on the stand and then put them back in the planes. I was wondering if adjusted properly on the stand, will the settings be very close to what they need to be on the plane? I figured that since the tank position on the YSs is irrelevant, they should run pretty close.

Thanks,

Mike

From my past experience with YS engines, Yes, they are pretty close given that you are using 20% or above nitro. Lower nitro fuel did not work well in plane compared to on stand.

I set up slightly rich on stand. Most of my engines stayed within 1/4 ~ 1/2 turn differences. All my YS engines were installed inverted, in-cowl.

Hope this helps,

All my YS engines are installed inverted, in-cowl also, and all of them idle just fine. My 110 idles great at the factory suggested settings with only half a gallon through it. I always re-tune my engines in the planes anyway. Since the engines are mounted right side up during break in on the stand, the settings are usually different if I mount the engines upside down in the planes.
