Hey Sonny can you tell me what motor mount you used to replace the stock one? I am using teh Jett 56. I ordered this one not sure if it will work. (OS 71913100 Motor Mount) She is almost ready again.

I had a motor mount that came out of a Great Planes Small Revolver that die a very hard death!! Look like the OS 55AX and the Evo 60NX have the same bolt pattern. The Evo drop right in with no mod. Same bolt pattern as the stock mount to the fire wall. I had a metal mount out of a old Hangar 9 P-51 PTS that would have work, but, the bolt pattern to the firewall was not the same. I think Jett has a mount that fit the Jackal, and some people are using it. Did fly my baby today and I had a blast!!! I hope Hangar 9 come out with more prop jet!!!

Thanks Sonny. Jett has it buy has 3 holes I believe. I will post here and see if anyone has a metal mount that they used without major mods to it.

Just wondering if anything has heard or experienced this. I was reading a review on the Evolution .60 Nx. One guy wrote that he was having problems with the glow plugs burning out. Turned out it was due to vibration of the engine being mounted on the stock fiberglass mount. He recommended the engine be mounted on an aluminum one. Apparently he did this and it solved the problem, does anyone else out there have any input about this? Reason I'm asking is I had a new glow plug die on me last week, now I'm wondering if its because I used the stock mount. I went out and bought an aluminum one, but don't know if its worth the trouble to install it and remove the old one. Any thoughts?

It sounds like the same conditions when you get fuel foaming and the engine goes lean.
Install some foam around the fuel tank to keep it from vibration.
I am runnind a jett sj60lx on mine and no problems at all so far.
Just sore cheeks from grinnin so much

I was just looking at the engine mount myself. I have one of the three hole Jett mounts. I measured it. And the Jet is nearly an inch short. Engine is a Jett 56. Hopefully someone here that has had success with the included mount will chime in. I really don't want to extend the firewall.

Thanks
Mum

If you want to go metal mount and don't want to modify the firewall to do so, then look at the metal mounts like available at Jtec RC. They have the traditional square back mounting plate with long forks that are common to this small case and will allow you to extend your engine without spacers or modifying the firewall.. You can send the guy an email and he'll respond back right away.

I purchase both the Jtec and Jett mount. I think the Jett mount is better for this setup in regard that the holes are predrilled for the engine, it's made for the engine so it's an exact and tight fit and it is a CH lighter. The Jett mount is designed in such a way that when the engine is mounted to it the distance from the back of the mount to the front of the drive hub is 100mm. The build manual calls for this, "distance from firewall to the front face of the drive washer" to be 113mm. So therefore if you are going to use the Jett Mount you need 13mm or just over 1/2" spacer(s) between your mount and the firewall. I ended up with a 13mms ply donut spacer between the firewall and the mount. I had to break out the bottom ply piece that the fuel tank was meant to rest on to remove the stock bottom blind nuts. I added 3 new blind nuts for the Jett mount. I replaced the hot glued ply piece with a few lengths of carbon fiber. I’m sure there are easier ways to go about all of this.

I’ve modified the composite mounts for years for bigger engines, etc. This is the first time, besides the Dubro vibration isolation mount, that I’ve ever used a metal mount. I will be using more of them in the future and if I go with another Jett setup I will use his metal mount to match.

Titan I have heard that pattern guys only use metal ones due to the vibration which burns plugs. I addition too much foaming will do that. I added lots of foam around the tank and bought a bubbleless clunk from towers that OS makes it helped. I have a Jett 12oz bubbleless tank but wont fit. Going to a hobby shop Friday and see if I can find a metal mount that will work.

OS makes a mount that fits very nicely....pre drilled for the motor but you will still need to add a plywood shim maybe an 1/8 in thick or so to make it work. Not too hard though. I think its the mount for the .46 AX. Not sure what the part number is right now. It seems to have made my JETT .56 run much better.

txshan I ordered the one you are just talking about. I should have it by Friday. How about using washers instead and did it fit the fire wall holes too??

Hey Guys,
Here is something you may want to look at. A very good friend of mines who back in the 70's and 80's flew pylon , would take a old or new bike inner-tube, cut strips out of the tube to go between the firewall and the motor mount, just like you see on the motor mounts on your car. Also he would line the walls where the tank would go with strips of the tubes and padding. One thing he was very hot on was the balance of the prop and spinner!!! At the rpm's these engine are putting out vibe's are a big killer of glow plugs, servos, and rx!!! I wish my friend was still with us, I would pick his brain so we all can learn. Like I said, this maybe something you may want to look at.
Have fun everyone!!!

Has anyone tried this? I've got a clamping mount on my Kaos with a 55AX. It did take a bit of filling to get the 55 in the mount.

use the metal mount throw away the clamps , drill and tap the mount...there is a reason pylon racers use metal mounts...wonder why jett and Nelson sell metal motor mounts?....

I am dating myself, but do you guys remember the Hyde soft mounts for pattern planes?  It was a standard looking mount with rubber spacers at the firewall attachment, and a rubber isolated ring that attached to the fuselage near the prop spinner.
Very cool and very expensive.  They were supposed to be the ultimate in vibration isolation.

Richardgerardi,
The holes do not match the stock holes....had to add the plywood spacer and re-drill the holes. Not sure I would use washers.....the ply spacer wasn't too hard.

You're not dating yourself. A little pricey, but they are still available. I haven't used one for maybe eight-ten years, but they are still available.

Hi guys, So i finally did it!

I finally got my hands on a new Jackal! I intended to assemble one with a Jett 56, but i found someone who was selling a brand-spanking new one with retracts and an Ev0 60 for such a sweet deal i couldnt pass it up. Maybe ill upgrade in the fall with a Jett...

My Big Question For You Experts: what are the best prop sizes for top end speed for the Evo 60? i am assuming 9x7 or 9x8?

He has an 11x7 on there but from what i have been reading, that is more of a sport prop...

Hi ckombo;
Congrat on your new Jackal 50!!! I have the Evo .60NX on my bird and the engine love the APC 9x6 prop. I use the 11x7 prop just to break her in on the test stand. Don't let that EVO .60NX fool you, that engine do have tons of power!!! If you use the Jett .56 or the Evo .60NX, you will love this plane!!
Good luck on the build and if you kneed help, just post. My bird is on the charger as I type!! You know what I will be doing this weekend!!
Happy 4th of July Everyone!!! Fly Safe!!!!

Great day!!! Had the best flier in the club set it up for me. Flew it 3xs and every time it flew faster. The Jett 56 is a monster, a little touchy but get in the hang of it. The bubble less clunck from OS work great. I think once the engine is broken in it will be a jaw dropper. A beuty in the air. Still have probelms with the mount have 1 original plastic and one aluminmun that fit great, the second aluminum mount the bit broke in it and couldn't get it out . It needs lots of up elevator and we use mid range flaps for take off, it is a little better for lift. Landings she comes in fast but the flaps slow it down ok. He handed me the tx and flew it but I think I need more practice because she is a bit touchy for my skills. If the sky is very white wach out she gets lost in them,. I think Hangar 9 should have used an aluminum mount for this plane. will fly next saturday for our fun fly. Thinking I needs a 2nd one By the way if you are thinking of a new radio, get the Aurora 9 it is really a radio for dummies so easy to set up.

Hi Guys.

Still flying mine, was not affected by the mid air I had. Replaced the engine mount and it is still flying.
My only concern is the engine makes a lot of noise, but to me the aircraft is not that fast.
I am running a 10x6 on the Jett 56, the 9x8 did not do anything for the plane.
What props are you guys running on your Jett engines?

Darryl

Darryl I'm using the 9x8 on Jett 56 until broken in will change to a 10x6 APC prop. The plane is way fast for me. What motor mounts are u using?
Thanks Sonny she looks very good in the air. The elevator trim has a bit of up in it. I think she might be nose heavy what da ya think?

Hello Richard.
Tried the 9x8 and found it to be all noise and no go, also very difficult to slow down for landing.
I ran mine in with the 10x 6 and have switched back to it again.
perhaps I will give the 9x8 another go to see if any difference now the engine is more or less run in.
i am using the standard Jackal engine mount, and have had no problems with it untill I hit another aircraft in mid air, and one arm of the mount broke, this saved a lot more damage occuring, so have replaced it with the same.

All the best and enjoy your Jackal.

Darryl

Richard;
For me, I have all my planes a tad nose heavy. That's way I like to setup dual rates on the elevator. Before landing, just flip the switch on the elevator to dual rate. Right now I am packing my suv for a day of flying and trying very hard not to pack the Jackal 50, but you know I will!!!! Get more time with her and then you can change the setup!! Oh well, the Jackal is in the suv. I just hope Hangar 9 make more prop jets like this one!!
Happy 4 of July everyone!!!
