I have a NIB YS45 SE and also a Picco 60 re black head slide carb and I wanted to find a great planes Patriot 45 kit and build it for some high speed fun.But it looks like everyone is very happy with the Jackal.

Status: offline 		Built mine per the instructions and I am pretty happy with it. The wheels that come with the kit aren't the best. But I am using them anyway. Could use better wheels with brakes in them. Haven't done it yet. I got rid of the nose cone or spinner. It kept flying off anyway. Got a tru-turn and no problems since. Its a great practice plane if you haven't flown one of your other jets in a while. It is significantly quicker than the Patriot by at least 20-30 mph.

I went with the JR 821 servos, Evo 60NX with the JETT Blue pipe, went with the Robart gear that was made for this bird. No problem with this setup. For fuel, I am running Cool Power 30% heli-mix. This engine just love it!!!

Glad to hear about the fuel since that's what I use in the Heli's. I was more interested in idea's for engines and retracts. I wan't as much speed as possible without sacrificing reliability, I want something that isn't finicky...is the Jett 56 a good option or just stay with the 60NX. And go with the Robart Mechanical or Pneumatic retracts? Also wanted to use the robostruts unless there is some reason not to. Any other tips or tricks you guys learned from building your Jackals?

Status: offline 		one tip from my side, if you decide to go with the Jett .56 get yourself the engine mount from Jett too...the original black plastic engine mount I had to replace twice

I'm using the Evolution 60 and Jett pipe, the engine performed well, then seized, (Too lean I guess) I picked up a replacement Evolution, from one of the other Jackal crew, and now I run it rich... It's still Fast....

I Have E-flite .60 Electric Retracts, but the nose wheel steering has been problematic, Push/pull wires keep getting hooked... I fly off grass so landing the plane on the jett muffler on the grass, has'nt caused any problems, I just have to remember to cut engine on flair..(witch switch is that again)

Make sure your nosewheel shaft is long enough, for the prop to clear, especially if you fly off grass...Your plane will be green if not..

Status: offline 		Nice flight Jack. Put a piece of thin foam under the front of the canopy and the vibration will go away. Mine was doing the same thing. At first I thought it was flutter.

Status: offline 		I have read this entire thread now, and was still suprised at how long a plane this is. I am planning on putting a jett 50 in it, I have it laying around as well as a 55 ax. I think the jett will produce more overall power.

Perfect ssw wind straight down the run way, taxied out and lined it up. Started roll out took almost full elevator to get it air born. Some quick trimming and all was good, running a Jett 50 on a 10x8 prop, ran it fairly rich and its still a quick plane. Lined up on the runway managed a minor flair, perfect rear wheel touch then the main touch, rolled out about 10 feet and motor hit the turf, the nice plastic landing gear mount shattered.

I have grown to expect better materials from H9, but when you expect the best from someone they usually let you down..

Status: offline 		I have been using an Evo 60NX and Blue Jett Pipe as well. I have been running 15% nitro and a 10-7 APC prop. The engine would idle well and run at full power well as long as you kept it rich. Transition was always a problem though. In the air if you dropped the throttle back to idle for more than a few seconds and then tried to go back to full power, the engine would die and dead stick landing would follow. I learned to never pull back to idle except on final and forget trying a go around. Not a problem as the airplane lands extremely easy.

Yesterday my Evo 60NX stopped running in flight. Before it stopped running, I noticed it not running quit right. It was a bit slower but trailing a normal amount of smoke and the engine sound was normal. Then it just lost all power and the rpm slowed. I throttled back but the engine died before getting the plane on the ground. Black oily exhuast residue was all down the side and bottom of the plane. The engine didn't feel particularly hot. The glow plug was good. I still had good compression. But rotating the prop felt rough and tight. It would restart but not run properly or for more than a second or two. Didn't seem to want to draw any fuel. So I think it is time for a replacement.

I too would like to know what engine others would recommend? I would not recommend the EVO 60NX due to my experience. Though for the money, it is not bad. It just didn't hold up for me. I have other engines, Rossi, OS, YS, and Webra that are all over 15 years old and still run perfectly with hundreds of flights each. My current thinking is the Rossi 53 or the OS 55 would be a nice replacement.
