bbrundle -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/9/2010 10:29 AM)

Guys the Jackals are at the Dock in CA and so we anticipate shipping these before the end of this month.

As far as the retracts go we have not yet installed any of the E-flite retracts. The 60-120 units a share the same mouting dimensions, but the extension lead exits the top of hteretract and makes the unit too tall to fit intot the very thin wing of the Jadkal.

The 25-40 size retracts which are not yet avaiilable should work well in the JAckal, but the mounting dimensions are smaller and you may have to do some additional modeleing to get these to work.

As soon as we eturn from I-hobby later this month I am planning to install the 25-40 size electrics and will let you all know the results.

By the way these 25 - 40 size retracts should not be any heavier than the Robart units the model was designed around.

If you are thinking about installing the mechanical version of the new Robart PRS landing gear (our part number HAN502) into the Jackal remember that these landing gear were designed to be able to be converted from mechanical to Pneumatic (HAN501) by purchasing hte air cylinder upgrade kit (HAN502A)

I worked together with Robart to develop this new landing gear for possible inclision into future Hangar 9 releases. The idea was to include the mechanical unit wth the kit(lower cost ) and then if hte consumer wanted Pneumatic retracts he could easily upgrade these by the addition of air cylinder kit.

Bill,

Thank you for the up date on the Jackal 50!!! This is good news!!! Can not wait to have one in my hangar!!
It is so good to see a company like yours do read these forums!! I have flown alot of Hangar Airplanes in my flying years, ( 25+ years ), and this one I know I will have a blast with it. Right now I think I will go with Robart Retract, but I will wait for your finding on the 20 - 40 size retract.
Thanks again for your info!!!

_Tommy D -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/10/2010 10:19 PM)

Sold a few items at a local swap meet today so I ordered the Jack. I wonder a couple of things about the order though:

I was charged shipping. I thought when a older was over $120 shipping was free? Also submitted a coupon code, and I'm not sure if it's showing either.

Of course it's only a invoice for a pre-order so what the final charge is could be entirely different.

Tommy are you referring to Tower?
it's 150.00 or more for us to get free shipping...........i always order stuff to meet that at least, and then get a discount code for 20 bucks off so i at least feel i got something for nothing..LOL

_Tommy D -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/11/2010 3:14 AM)

Nope, Just pulled this Off Horizons Site...

Free Shipping on orders over $120:
Qualifying Orders:
- Total purchase of $120 required prior to taxes and shipping charges
- Contiguous United States Shipments only
- Not available on shipments to Alaska or Hawaii
- Does not include Oversize charges
- Available on in stock orders only
- Ground shipments only

Well The Jacks not "in stock" so by not waiting it might have cot me $10. I'm not complaining mind you as thats a lot cheaper then I could ship a similar sized model the same distance.

MMcConville -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/18/2010 11:56 PM)

I'm joining this party late, but a few points.

First, I did NOT design the Patriot..... I worked there at the time, early in my career in this industry,19 years ago...wow....

I had a Patriot and was involved with the product management of it but didnt do any of the design. Its a long time ago but as I remember, the philosophy with that model was to make it LOOK fast, but use a thick airfoil that would not allow a lot of speed and make it easier for the average Joe to fly.

The philosophy with he Jackal was quite different. It is designed to not only look fast, but also BE fast. We believe that today's modeler is a little different than back then and the guy wanting this really wants to go fast. I worked with George Hicks to develop the Jackal airfoils, with the goal being very low drag, yet good low speed handeling. George did well as you'll see when you fly it.

We did a lot of testing on the Jackal and Bill much more extensive than myself, but I do remember the fastest runs we got when I flew it were 150 to 155 mph.
As I remember it, the Patriot was about 100mph with its recommended set-up in the day.

B Shipp -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 12:27 AM)

Mike,

What engine/prop were you using to get 150 - 155?

2Brave -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 12:33 AM)

I have three on backorder w/completes setups. I wouldn't mind selling you one when I get them next week but I'm sure you would have to wrestle one of the guys that have spoken for them....

MMcConville -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 1:12 AM)

Was the Evolution .60/Jett muffler. I dont remember the prop off the top of my head.

glowplugboy -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 1:18 AM)

So Mike, it's "Mid-October"..... is the warehouse brimming over with Jackals?

summerwind -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 1:19 AM)

with my Jett 56LX this thing should go 160..............woohoo.
Mike you did your usual excellent work here.
i've flown several of your designs................none ever needed more than a click of this or that.

MMcConville -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 1:30 AM)

I believe they will start shipping later this week.

bbrundle -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 4:43 AM)

Guys,

The Jackal 50's have arrived and I just wrapped up QA and they look great. Mike thanks for clarifying the original design as I must have not paid close enough attention during many of our meetings. If you are in the Chicago area this coming weekend be sure and stop in to the Intenational Hobby Expo (I-Hobby) as we will have Jackal on display along with a few other new H9 releases.

The Jackal should begin to ship to our dealers this Thursday/Friday and then begin shipping to anyone who purchased directly from our HH.com store the beginning of next week.

The best propeller I found during development of the Jackal 50 is an APC 10x7 using the new Evolution 60NX and Evoltion muffler(this pipe/muffler has been modified by Jett specfically for use with the 60NX).

With this combination you will need to change out the stock GP1 glow plug that is included with the 60NX for either an HAN3011 Super plug or similar, such as a MC-#9.

jet22b -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 5:02 AM)

Bill;

That is very good news to hear!!! Hangar 9 will have another winner on their hands. One quick question, I have new in-box Evoltion 61NX, will that engine fit the Jackal?? I know it was setup for the 60NX. My local hobby shop has a 60NX in stock. Your company rock, please keep up the good work!!

bbrundle -> RE: H9 Jackal 50 Prop Jet (10/19/2010 6:27 AM)

Sonny,

This main issue you will run into is the weight difference between a .61 & our small case 60NX. The Jackal is a 50 sized model, but our new 60NX is the same dimensinally as our 52 or typical 55 size 2-stroke, so it is really the perfect combination for this airframe along with the new mini pipe.

The 60NX weighs close to 7 oz. less than a comparable .61 2-stroke including the Evolutiojn .61NX and as the battery is already placed in the tail of the Jackal for balancing with the recommended set up so if you run the heavier .61 engein be prepared to add considerable weight to the tail to balance.

The engine range is .46-.55 for th Jackal.

I hope this helps

Can I ask on what fuel?

I'm running a 60NX with the stock/supplied glow plug as follows:

15% Byron fuel with a healthy dose of Castor added. On a 11x6 on the ground it peaks @ 13,600 on a Towers Muffler. I have not tried the 10x7 as my engine is in a H9 F-22 and it can use all the disc diameter you can throw at it.

Thank You

Tommy

Check out post #219. I ask Bill the same question about a 61 size engine. I think that will answer your question!!!
