Status: offline 		I remember my midstar, awhile back, before i smashed it really bad, because my elevator linkage came loose. Very nice airplane with a saito 56 up front for me. Keep us updated on the build, I'm gonna check this thread every day. I would have ordered from graves RC. Sig is very behind, and personally think there close to out of business. They never respond to me needs, like I called and asked and left a message when there ARFs were gonna be in stock, and they never called me back, so I tried emailing, no email back.

Anyway, pictures, pictures, and more pictures!!! On this build!!!!!

Status: offline 		Hi, you have chosen a very good plane in the Mid Star. I built mine as a progression from my LT 40 trainer around 5 yrs ago and still occasionally bring it to the field when I want a relaxing sport plane to shoot some touch and goes. I have an Evolution .46 mounted on it and it is a nice size engine for this frame. Your OS 46 fxi from the Nextar would be ideal.
I would like to make a suggestion to you about the tail wheel. Do not use the tail wheel wire that comes with the kit. It mounts directly to the rudder and puts a lot of strain on the rudder hinges and servo gears, especially when flying from a grass field. I used the factory wire when I first built my MS but it was quickly torn from the rudder when I bumped my plane rearwards while starting the motor. I have now switched all of my planes to a Sullivan tail wheel. They are far superior and will save you some trouble down the road.

Status: offline 		The only thing you will need to be very watchfull of is the position of the fuselage doubler
when it is glued to the inside of the fuselage sides, make sure it doesn't move! ! ! ! !

Status: offline 		Don't be afraid to overpower that plane. I loved it with my Saito .91. Too bad a radio failure brought it to a horrible end. I had bought it from twn, who had built it with a couple of modifications. It flew nicely with my .56, but got the itch to try the .91 and loved it.

Status: offline 		Hmmm this will be my second plane so just a beginner. Just to be honest speed scares me right now! I have a 40 Thunder Tiger I was planning on using for this plane. I think that would be good for this plane with my flying skills??? Still just flying my trainer but winter is here so not getting much time in. Spring I want to hit it hard with the trainer then move to this plane. Is the 40 TT the best or should I get something else?

Status: offline 		Is the TT40 a Pro or GP? The Pro is a better quality engine than the GP. The Pro should have plenty of power for the Mid-Star but the GP depending on how hard it has been used in the past maybe a little sluggish. I used a TT 40 Pro on a Four Star 40 and it did a great job of pulling the plane around. I do not think you need to worry about the speed or over powering this model. I believe if you do as you plan next Spring to get a few flights on the trainer then get some air under the Mid-Star you will find you know more and your flying skills will be better than you think. You should find the after a few flights how much better the Mid-Star is flying than the trainer. Have fun.

The mid-star flies FAR better than a trainer. She tracks like she is on rails. Very impressive plane for a beginer. I would actually suggest starting with the midstar. I could land mine almost hands off. I started with a 46fx but got tired of the lack of power and went with a 61. LOTS of fun with the 61!!

THe 40 tt is a good place to start.

Make sure you do a covering scheme that you can see. Big geometric shapes with a high contrast difference... Blue/white, red/white etc...

Status: offline 		For your skill set the 40 is a great engine choice. As far as TT verses GP both are fine engines. If it is a GP - plain bearing just make sure you run it with 20% oil content. Add some castor oil if necessary.

Status: offline 		Just to add to this thread...I finally took the kit I'd kept in the closet and built it over the winter. Using an ASP 61 4-stroke and and Ohio Superstar tail wheel mine came out a 5lbs 11oz. The engine pulls her around with authority although you are flying on the wing. While its very fast it will not maintain verticle. Its so small that with my tired eyes it goes out of sight in a hurry if you're not careful. The stock gear was so flimsy that a couple of rough landings pretty well flattened it out. I reshaped it but decided to remove and replace with a Du-bro nylon main gear. This also adds height which will help since a 12x6 prop mowed the runway with the stock gear. So far about 10 flights and I'm starting to like her!
