  Ok I am new at this so please bear with me. Going to build a Sig Mid-Star over the winter. Been buddy boxing with a trainer on a Nexstar and have been given my clubs blessing to fly when I want on my own. Scary! Plan to fly the Nexstar till I get the Mid-Star built hopefully by next spring. The Mid-Star should be in this weekend so I spent this week setting up a work area. My husband does trains and a large portion of our basement is a huge train layout so needless to say not much space for me. The kid headed back to college last week so the spare bedroom is now my new work space. She will be very uphappy when she comes back for holiday to find I have packed up the stuff animals and trinkets to make myself my own space for my new project. She'll just have to learn to share! Anyways I took some pics with my cell phone since I don't have a digital camera and have attached them. I'm sure they won't be very good quality but this is a trial run. Also not sure how to resize them. Anyways here goes!

Status: offline 		Wish I could get my husband interested no luck. Trains and Gaming is his thing. I realize I am not normal because I do very much like doing guy stuff. Guy stuff is fun not shopping....unless it for a new plane or engine or even fishing. Not sure why women can't get more into the fun.

I built two midstars and its a great airplane building and flying, I'll be checking this thread and will try to help.
Yes I do think its flying better than the 4 star.

Are you going 2.4 for the radio?  if not be sure to route an outer nyrod inside  the fuse for the antena.  What size motor you putting in the nose?

Sounds like the train layout needs a little community airpark!

Status: offline 		I have a FM radio a club member gave me so I'll just use that for now. I don't have a engine yet. Any suggestions? I want something that I don't have to tinker with all the time. Something that is decent but won't cost me a bundle. I thought about taking the OS 46 off the nexstar but I keep hoping hubby will learn on the nexstar so kind of want to have it ready to fly.

Status: offline 		OS 46LA and OS 46AX are both very reliable engines that are ridiculously easy to tune. The AX will have more power than the LA but either would be fine. That airplane would sound great with a four stroke but a two stroke would be cheaper and easier to install and tune for a beginner.

Status: online 		The Mid-Star has plenty of power with a 40 on it, I have a ST40 on mine
and it is a rocket ship at full throttle, I normally cruise around at half
throttle most of the time. If you chose OS the 35 is sufficent for the
Mid-Star, I wouldn't go larger than a 40 on this one, and pay close
attention to the recommended throws. I'll post some pics of mine
this evening. Take the extra time and put 2 servos in the wing for ailerons
it will be a lot better to set up than the single center servo arrangement.

Status: offline 		You know I forgot when I got the FM computer radio I also got a Thunder Tiger 40 used engine. Hmmm maybe try that out? The club I am in has some really great guys. Every time I turn around someone is handing me something that could be useful to a newbie. Great bunch at CBRC in Maryland!

Bill,

the OS 35AX at Tower sells for $150.00 while the OS 46LA sells for $84.00 and the 46AX sells for $140.00. Add to this the fact the either of the .46 engines would transfer better to other 40 size airframes the OP may build in the future makes them the better choice in my opinion.

The TT40 would be an ideal engine if you already have it.

Status: offline 		I purchased my first Thunder Tiger engine, (a Pro .46) about two years ago because I wanted a reliable engine but didn't want to pay OS Max's prices. The engine is easy to start, easy to tune, very dependable and I love the power the engine has. Concerning the Midstar .40, I've had one for going on 3 years as a second plane after a Sig Senior Kadet ARF and enjoy it. I made one modification by putting triangle stock on each side of the vertical stabilizer to help ensure that it has plenty of support. Also, consider changing out the metal screws on the dural landing gear for nylon screws - it helps keep the fusalage intact if you have a bad landing. Otherwise, it is a nice laser cut kit and a joy to fly. Not too many people build these so it will be easy to be unique at the field if that is your goal.

Status: offline 		That little Thunder Tiger pro is one great ruining inverted engine.  I was suprised at how well my two run inverted.

Status: offline 		You could try HobbyHorse.  I had my Mid Star 40 sent down to Australia and I think I had it in about 9 days.  I was pretty happy with their service.  Spewing I didn't wait a bit longer though with the Aussie dollar being a little bit stronger now than a month ago when I ordered it.
Might be a good excuse to stock up on a few more kits hey?  Back when I ordered it, Sig said that they didn't have any in stock them selves so it might be a good idea to look elswhere otherwise you might be waiting a while?
