thanks kev, track setup was ok, it was to curvy for bikes in my opinion.  They had a layout that was more friendly to bikes, more straights, less curves.

@rc2008, if you want something that is very different from any rc that you have driven and something that will get attention every where you go, while being very fun at the same time, get a bike.  But do your research and get the bike that is right for you.  As stated the Kyosho HOR has gears that shred within minutes of use, I know.  But being this bike was made to be a model that you but on your shelf with the option of turning it into a rc bike, it will need the most upgrades I think to get driving right.  gears, gearbox, frame support, not to mention all the electronics.  Tire inserts, and so fourth.  Yes it can be done for less than 100 bucks, but ask your self will you be satisfied with that setup, if not, dont get it as you will be wasting money in buying the same but better parts later.  However I choose this bike for how it moves on the track, looks great and is fun.  But I feel speed is limited to what you see, I will be trying to get a bigger motor to fit, but until then....My next bike will most likely be the thunder tiger, as it is made for rc use, not shelf use.  So this bike comes with all you need, sure you can upgrade the motor and customize here and there.  But from what I have read, its a great out of the box rc bike to run and its FAST.  I would stay away from nitro unless you are familiar with it already.  Personally with the combo of lipo and brushless, why go nitro at all?

  Hey rc 2008

I would say deffinetly get a bike.  They are tons of fun !!  They are a bit tricky to drive at first, but you'll learn quickly.  There is a decent amount of upgrade parts available.  The only one that is a must, in my opinion, are the metal gears for the transmission.  The stock ones seem to be made from cheese, and last only minutes !

What do you other HOR bike riders think ?

Even with the stock motor in mine, it was slow compared to an rc car, but still lots of fun. At slower speeds, you get a better view of the little man leaning and moving his head !  That is the coolest part for me.

Oh yeah,  watch out for little dogs.  They seem to want to attack my bike.  I've had a few close calls !!

    r/c freak,
Good point about what bike to get . I didn't consider that.  The Kyosho is deffinatlly a shelf model first, r/c model second !  I was surprised by how much I  had to assemble and paint.  If you want a project to build/paint/drive, the Kyosho one is the way to go.  If you just want to drive, the other one is probably the way to go, but I am not sure how much assembly is required for them.

For the HOR bike, the metal gears are a must at a minimum, but I also think you will need to make the  other upgrades, like you mentioned, to get the full enjoyment from them.

As for the plastic gears in the transmission...... what were they thinking !!!  Talk about designed to fail !

As for dogs,  watch out for fat little Pugs. There were two, but they couldn't even run as fast as my bike !!  They seemed intent on destruction !

The design is old and if you run the included silver can I doubt you would even be punishing the little plastic gears much at all. Not really fair to compare it to say the Thunder Tiger stuff out of the box if you think of it that way.

Exactly!!!! This thing was made in 92, the idea of brushless and lipo was not even a thought in there heads.   But as far as not comparing it it the thunder tiger, why not it is the perfect bike to compare it to.  And here is why, I can get a thunder tiger electric for a little a more than $300 bucks, rtr.  Given it doesnt have a 2.4 ghx radio, that would be my only upgrade untill i got used it.  So an extra 50 gets me a receiver to hook up to my radio and i have a fast bike that easily gets up on its own, at least in the youtube videos and has a gyro so it stays up very nice.  and they look pretty darn fast.      in summary, thunder tiger setup $350 plus tax = fast, rc made, easly to learn, not including battery mind you

Now for the HOR, the model kit will run you around 75 bucks, then you will need radio and receiver $100 will get the 2.4ghz combo, 1/18 motor and esc, around $100, metal gear box and gears for longer than 2 minute runs.  as well as swingarm, shock, front fork, tires and inserts for handling and to help survive crashes at higher speeds.  So lets so around $100 at least.          in summary, for a model HOR kit turned into a rc bike, $360 plus tax = fast, could be faster(at least for me), easy to learn, model made first, doesnt get up easy, looks insanely cool.

So you see, they are two completely different bikes that cost around the same price to get, both can be very fun, but I feel each have its own bros and cons that make them both good bikes but used for two different reasons.  One for race and the other more for fun, you can race the Kyosho hor, but not like you can a TT.  Again this is just my opinion, and i am by no means an expert in the rc world.

I agree they both have their place, what sold me on the HOR was the leaning rider. I have a second kit which I plan to put together for a shelf queen just gonna keep it all stock and box art.

ok so its been a while but i have some more to share with everyone.  I havent been all that happy with these tires, I just dont get how slick tires can be high grip....idk, but anyways i went and got some new tires, I went with the OTO tires.

They feel so much better than the kyosho tires, they even have tread which at least looks cool.
however with these new tires I got a little chain rub with my rear single side arm kit, so i added a small washer to try and get rid of it and it worked.

notice the space now, rub free baby

Also I went picked up one of those motor castle had on sell and threw it in this puppy

Hopefully with the addition of these tires and new motor I will be able to drive better and faster when I need to.  Currently having issue locating a pinion gear that will fit without hitting the motor mount screws, as the motor shaft is a size bigger that the other motor I had.  Once I do I will post my findings, along with another video hoepfully.

My next planned major upgrade is PAT brakes for the front, he said all he was waiting for is the cables so I cant wait!!!!
