Status: offline 		Well I FINALLY got someone to take some flying pics of my MX2... its only taken a few months!!!
Just seems a waste having the mx2 and a DSLR with a 70-300 lens and not using both at the same time.

Status: offline 		ceerb1, how is your landing gear holding up?  I went down the other day and checked mine and it's good to go... I'm not saying its the strongest but It would take some force to pull that gear out... I was tugging pretty hard, with the L brackets you would have to basically pull out all the ply that is attached to it.  With a little extra glue on it you should have no problems...

Status: offline 		mine is now holding up very well.

but that is AFTER I ripped it out on a landing....
In my case I had actually landed, and it ripped out when one of the wheels hit a stone while it was decelerating on the runway.. I kid you not.

It was ripped out SO cleanly and was visibly "dry" and glueless... It seemed more like they had glued it with the absolute minimum of glue, but the structure of the plane itself seemed strong enough..

Once I re-glued it (properly) with 30 min epoxy and added in some fibreglass just for good measure.


I am now happy enough to pick up the plane by one undercarriage strut... definitely holding up!


I'd actually agree with what you say.. with a little more glue from the factory it would hold up great... unfortunately the area you need to glue to fix it well, is best accessed by ripping the undercarriage out.

Status: offline 		A JC Evo 28ccwill set you back some $270 Dls. HobbyKing wiil deliver a DLE 30cc for $201.99 plus S/H which is a real good price if you don't mind enduring HobbKing terrible warranty and service support. Tower Hobbies provides excellent service, maintenance and product support but you have to pay $320 Dls. plus shipping.

If you have some extra cash a Evolution 26cc will cost you $450 bucks at Horizon Hobbies. The Evolution 28 will do the job but Horizons Evolution have a much better warranty, service support, parts availability and in my opinion the best performance of all 30cc class engines. Take into consideration that a OS 1.60 glow engine will cost you $320 Dls. these gas engines are very competitive plus even at $3.50 a gallon they beat the price of a gallon of glow at over $23 Dls. a gallon.

How are people finding fuel economy?

I have the stock tank and the JC28, I fill it every flight and only seem to use about 10 - 15% of the tank...
Just been thinking of halving the size of the tank for weight saving and better C/G control..

I tend to keep to shorter flights... purely because it works best for other pilots in the club and I preffer it that way.


I am also reading about a "rule of thumb" where a gas engine uses its displacement per minute at full throttle.. and half that for "normal flying".
Ie 320CC tank is 11 mins at full throttle, 22 at "normal flying".
Pretty sure I could drop to 200 - 230 cc easily.

Status: offline 		I use about 1/2 the tank in about 10 to 12 minutes of flying. I use the rest as a safety reserve incase I can't land due to someone or something being on the field.
I bet your'e not lacking performance so why change anything. Just Fly it and have fun.

I'm using an 18-6 Xoar. IMAC type some 3D. I also have the Sboch, not the MX2.

Stihl Ultra at 50-1.

Lets not get into a big argument on oil.

flying all round 3d imac and sport...

so far working out very well for me.... MIGHT go to the 18z7 I have and try at a later date.

again its due to the stupid JC28cc was flying for 10 min everything was fine then decided to do a flatspin,,, in the middle of the manuver a friend told me your engine is dead,, could not recover from the flatspin and hard landed it.. firewall broken, landing gear ripped off, base bones 4 broken cowl smashed.


guess got to learn the hard way and stay away from that JC engines

It does sound rebuildable though.
Whats up with the JC engine, was you at full throttle during your flatspin, or did it die at some other setting

i dont think i have the skills to re build it with all that damage, i went up at full speed got it 1/4 throttle then 1/2 throttle on the spin process where it did stop. i had about 10 dead stick landings perior to that one kerwin using that jc28cc engines this time i could not save the plane
