60% Hempel Super Cub w/3W275 3 x Flights & lots of extras. Reduced!
Reduced! For Sale is my Hempel 60% Super Cub. Has three flights on the airframe from about three years ago. Has been sitting since and I have gotten into Turbines so its about time to let this one go. Had this custom covered in Top Cub colors and used B&E Graphics for the N numbers and cowl decals (Flight pic was before these decals were installed). Has original aluminum gear installed but have a new stainless upgrade unit ready to be installed by the new owner.
JR 8711 HV servos all around (15), JR PowerSafe RX installed and I will include a new latest Spektrum PowerSafe RX. Additionally I am going to assume all of the installed LiPo batteries are dead so I will also include a new set of LiFe batteries as well.
3W275 Twin Spark opposed twin installed and has been run only 4 times. In cowl mufflers installed.
New Haigh style tail wheel also included with scale size tailwheel to replace the leaf spring unit installed.
I am also going to include a new but without box Spektrum ix12 transmitter. I will put in a transmitter case. This was not used with the airframe but is new and has never been used on any aircraft. Throwing this in to sweeten the deal a bit for anyone taking a look.
You will need to go through the airplane as flying these is like flying a full scale aircraft. I believe you will find this investment well worth it.
Asking $6500 for everything above (that is less than the cost for the airframe & engine alone before $1k+ in shipping).
Local pickup only as this thing is huge (basically the size of a full scale aircraft (see specs form Hempel site below). Will add additional pictures this week.
Thanks for taking a look
Bill D.

Yes, the engine has decompression valves on the cylinders. I would usually turn one on and one off so the engine was easier to flip but still had the compression to snap over.

I might be interested. I currently have a 60% L4 and appreciate its size.....in fact, I cut it down to a clipped wing cub size for ease of handling. We would need to get a bid from an automotive transport company to transport the plane to Houston. Do you know any carrier in the area?

Yes you need to see one to appreciate how big this airplane is. It make the 50% look small!
I don't have anyone other than my normal freight companies I use like Pilot. I had someone else whom was interested and said the same that he would get a carrier to come get it pack it up and deliver the airframe. I can do some research to find out. Do you know of any chain companies?

Yes.....If you don't mind. See if you can find a carrier with a closed cargo trailer in which you can "tie down" the airplane just like a real one. The wings could be wrapped in bubble wrap and tied to the sides of the fuselage. I don't think it would be necessary to build a crate if the plane was secured to the floor of the trailer at landing gear and tailwheel. I've moved planes like this before long distances with no issues. The key is finding the right carrier. Hopefully, you can find one in your area. The eventual drop off would be in either zip code 77056 or 78954.....the first one is in Houston, Texas and the second one is in Round Top, Texas.
Thanks for looking into this,

Yea...I just got back to a calm level a few days ago......Surprised to see it move....Didn't go to UTAH by chance to B.W. ?
Hey, for what its worth to you and the guy in Texas.. I ve bought and moved a few 50/60% around with USHIP.. Its a hotshot freight bidding website... I got a 50% extra from Louisiana to Virginia for $300..not a scratch on it...worth a try if your guys ready to buy...He just has to put out for bid...I used t get 6/8 bids ….Feel them out...best one...do the deal for agreed price..
Don't have another 60% Extra sitting in your warehouse ???? Got a spare 420 that needs a home..other than a cub. ( up to 3 now ..)

Sorry I have sold allot of my x-large stuff. Have the two 60% cubs RTF and a 55% Pilot yak NIB left. also have a Ready to Fly Hempel KA-6. I sold most of my engines as well in favor of turbines. Have gotten the Jet bug and now am getting Kingtech K-260 & K-320s coming in instead of big 3W, ZDZ and Valach motors.

Bill,
As per a recommendation on this thread (thanks), I have asked for a quote from Uship and am currently getting anywhere between $3-600 which seems very reasonable if it is an enclosed carrier. I think your asking price as listed is fair and am willing to commit if you'll consider splitting the transport fees if no higher than $600 ($300) to you or net to you of $6,200 and I pay shipping. Again, this is contingent upon a final quote with proper equipment. I'll let you know when the final number comes in.
Merry Christmas,
Fred

Bill,
As it turns out, the shipping costs will be more in the $1,200 - $1,400 range; however, I'm still committed to the $6,200 selling price. You will probably need to wrap the wings in bubble wrap and strap to the fuselage like saddle bags and put the other goodies (transmitter, landing gear, batteries, etc. in a separate box. If this all seems good with you, we'll proceed with the transaction and logistics.
I'll need your physical address for pick up and a contact number.
have a good one,
Fred Massey

Bill,
This format is quite cumbersome......not sure if you're getting my response. I have no problem in waiting a couple of weeks.....I still have some transport quotes out. I'm still in if you're OK with the wait. I'll proceed however you want.
