I personally run test ads all the time. You do not see them because they are posted, functionality is verified and the ad is pulled back down so they do not litter the site in place of legitimate ads.

Every ad I have read where people say they have problems with emails through the marketplace is tied to either a Yahoo or AOL email account. Outside of yourself, I have not seen a single person report a problem with Gmail.

Not sure how you would get members all with different emails to post a message in the question area of the for sale post, then see if you get emails from it?
I am not making it up just for the heck of it, obviously there is some sort of random issue.
Just because I am the only one you hear of doesn't mean there aren't more, this forum itself is hard to find and most users that may have a couple ads might not be bothered to post about it or even know that they should receive an email as they might think the popup is the only thing thats supposed to show a notification.

Did you check the email address from the user that posted questions in my ad to see if he has a yahoo or AOL address? All of the notifications of questions posted in my ads that actually went thru to my email, had gmail accounts so maybe all others are not getting thru.

Just a quick scan there are other users with similar issues, I also had the error from a sent email bouncing as undeliverable but haven't had that one in a little while.

Believe it or not, I find most members are quick to report a problem if they find one

No one is saying you are making this up. I am absolutely certain what you are saying is 100% accurate. However, when only 1 person reports an issue and we cannot replicate it, then it starts looking more and more like the problem is isolated to that 1 person.

Yes, I did check the account of the person who posted in their ad. They have a Yahoo email account. That should not however prevent our system from sending your Gmail account an email letting you know they tried to contact you.

Two of the three threads you linked were started by Yahoo email users.

The third should check his spam filter settings before blaming the problem on us.

So seems like that may be the issue, that the software is not redirecting a yahoo account for who knows why. When someone has a gmail account, I get the notifications, but not a Yahoo account as in this case.

Are you sure that every time someone posts in your ad using a Yahoo or AOL account you do not get their message? Is it restricted to only those 2 account types?

Thats what it seems like, I looked back thru all my emails and all the questions that I received notification of were gmail accounts with one being a cox account.

On this old ad I never received a notification and I finally emailed him direct and he also has a yahoo account. Now we are getting somewhere

I reported it in this thread, told you it's an intermittent problem, and yes I have failed to get "Forwarded questions" sent to my gmail acct.

I think most people just accept these issues and never say anything and know nothing will ever be done to fix it. The problems have been going on so long and people tired of being told the problems are our own.

I understand there's nothing you can do about a IPS bouncing emails, but it Is happening in Gmail too

Tom,
No one is saying the problem is "your own". We're saying the problem is "outside of our control or influence".

John, My point wasn't to re-debate the points of the thread, just to point out issues do exist when using Gmail also and it had been reported to you.

So I just made an offer on this http://www.rcuniverse.com/market/ite...itemId=1021757

I did get confirmation of my offer

But didn't get notice of offer accepted or the invoice the seller says he sent

More intermittent problems, I'm using Gmail, seller using Yahoo,, who knows which is blocking RCU??

It is Yahoo doing the blocking. Notice the messages you did not receive are those generated on the sellers side.

Even a the ones that do make it through go to my spam filter and have this warning This message may not have been sent by: [email protected] Learn more Report phishing

Only the ones directly from [email protected] come though OK

Scale, there is more than 1 problem with the RCU website. Many people including myself, have received emails from RCU stating you just made an offer on an item. I looked up my archived ads, found the ad, and it was 14 months ago??? Something needs to be done to correct this.
NO! JWN, I don't use Yahoo, AOL, or Gmail. I use a different email program entirely.
Can't blame it on that. It is the screwed up RCU Website, Get it?

Yes, you clearly missed the sarcasm of my post, many of us have been fully aware of email issues for a quite a while,,, it's undeniable now.

I can only imagine the headaches these guys go through to keep this site up and running. I don't know if anyone gets paid or not, but it is a thankless task for the most part.

Yeah...something, somewhere is 'broken'. This site is free. What do you expect for nothing?

All in all, this site is still pretty darn nice...even with its glitches.

The email servers rebooted and services restarted last Friday evening as part of normal system maintenance. No issues were noticed at the time but it appears a large number of old email notices were sent/resent. I personally received a number of notices that were nearly 4 years old along with a slew of others less aged.

Please let us know if the problem continues today.

Just noticed I had a question in one of my ads, and I got no notification to my gmail account. I had to visit the site to see it was posted. Let me guess he has a Yahoo or AOL email account??
