Default Will my e-mail address be visible when I ask a seller a question?

Why would it be, if so?

Yes, your email address is visible to the seller. This is so that they may respond to you directly if they so wish.

Hmmm, this is not good! I have received e-mails of a type I did not want when I allowed my address to be seen on another forum.

Why is this not set up, as it is on other forums, so that we can have e-mails sent through the forum, rather than directly?? Or by private message?

Your email address is not visible to any forum. It is only visible to the person you send your question to. Think about it, if you ask someone about a trade and it has nothing to do with any other members, should it really be posted to the discussion area at the bottom of the ad? Also, we allow you to post questions to the seller with the option to not post it in the ad. If your email address is not sent to the seller, how will they be sure you received their answer?

OK, I understand -- but that is not what I meant. On other forums you can send e-mails or private messages without the seller knowing your e-mail address. This is good because you can communicate initially without exposing your address -- then, when/if you reach a tentative agreement, you can exchange addresses, phone numbers, etc. Is there no way to communicate initially without exposing your e-mail address on this site?

When I open the "Ask seller a question form", the sellers e-mail address is not shown --"For privacy" it states. Yet my e-mail address is shown -- even though I have set my preferences to "hidden". This is what I don't understand.

Again, this is so the seller can respond back to you if you choose not to post your question to the discussion area at the bottom of the ad. This is very much inline with how other sites handle this type of situation if they even allow you to post a question without it being shown in the ad.

Thank you,
