Default 989 and Lipos

Hello,

I am a little confused on charging lipos with my 989. I start the charge and it only charges for about 10 minutes then switches to trickle. Is this what it is supposed to do? Am I supposed to leave it on trickle until it stops or is it not charging correctly.

Thanks
Tom

I don't mean to double post or hijack a thread but I realized after posting this on the general page that this was probably the better place to do so. I know I need a balancer or maybe two. I don't know how this works and need an education (another education)

I have this charger:
http://www.modelrec.com/search/product-view.asp?ID=6863 (SB989)

And plan on getting these Lipos.
https://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/...idProduct=8578 (5000mah 2S1P, 20C lipos)

I'd plan on charging them 2 at a time. What settings are recommended and what balancer is recomended?

Is there a good general lipo care and feeing mass of information somewhere that I can go soak my head in?

Thanks,

MRC doesn't really have a pulse. When was the last time they released anything new? The 989 in '05?

What voltage is your lipo showing after it kicks over to trickle? If its around 8.4 volts then the charge is almost done and the charger is tapering off the charge to be nice to the battery

Hi SV27.

You can do them in parallel if they are the same cell count, and should be programmend into memory as a 2sx10000 mah pack. Set capacity to 10,000 , rate to 10 amps, ect. Any balancer should work as they are universal. Make sure to wire/adapt them corectly.

Default RE: 989 and Lipos

I don't trickle charge my LiPo batteries. Once they reach maximum voltage (2S 8.4v, 3S 12.6v), I just hit "stop" on my SB 989 and disconnect them from the GP Equinox balancing module I use with my SB 989.

Trickle charging the LiPos would only be handy if you charge first and then balance once the battery is topped up. If you balance as you charge, you don't have to trickle charge.
