989 questions

I just got 1 of these and have a few questions. I will be using this charger for flight packs and 12vdc sla hobby batteries.

1) The green jack on the side is where you make all your connections for charging/discharging? (I know it sounds stupid but their manual is useless)

2) I assume I'll have to modify the output connector/connectors so I can charge NiMh/NiCd packs as this connector is not compatible with banana jack leads which most accept.

3) Does someone make any adaptors for the banana jacks for this charger?

I have a Triton I have been using and like it but needed another charger and thought I'd try something different.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

RE: 989 questions

You are correct , didn't it come with 1 or 2 leads anyways? It should have.
I made mine like this so I can use the green or bananas. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=9218203 The only thing I'd change would be to line up the red and black jacks with the + and - labels that are already on the charger. I'm not aware of any pre-made adapters.

I took the charger apart and the green output jack is soldered directly to the printed circuit board. How are you guys making the connection internally using female bananas?

I soldered to that same point and ran two short wires to my jacks.

RE: 989 questions

I simply use the alligator clips that came with my Super Brain 989 to clip to the male banana connector leads on all of my charging adapters. I put a piece of foam rubber between the leads to prevent them from touching while cycling or charging. I'm not charging anything faster than 2200mAh, so this has worked fine for me.
