Default KK board questions

So I got the KK black board version 5.5 (Atmega 168PA). I think firmware version 2.5 (x) is loaded and I also have the USBasp programmer. I have a few questions since I'm not familiar with this board.

1. Is there a way to tell what firmware is loaded on the board using the programmer?
2. What flash tool is recommended? I have kkmulticopter flashtool v0.62 and AVR Studio 4. AVR is giving error when trying to select programmer. The other flash tool loads.
3. Can the board get damaged if you set the wrong settings upon flashing?
4. Is there a difference in firmware between blue and black?
5. Can you flash blue fw to a black board?

Thanks

1. No real way to tell which FW is on the board by plugging it in. You can flash it with anything you want so then you will know.
2. I use the Lazy Zero flashtool. It's probably the easiest one out there.
3. The board can't really be damaged by the firmware. If you don't like the firmware, simply load another and it will be fine.
4. Doesn't matter what the color is. They are all KK boards.
5. Any firmware that works on any kk board will work on any other.

Thanks for the response. What is the best firmware to use? Does it really matter? I will be using the X configuration.

X4.7 is really good. Just don't use "acro" mode. Acro mode is for very advanced fliers.

Ok, I loaded fw 4.7 from a hex file (taken from rcgroups) with no issues but there was no way to tell if it is acro. Everything is setup in terms of motors/props. I bench tested to make sure the tx and gyro response is correct. Does anyone know if this firmware supports changing flight mode with the tx?

What are the differences between the different modes?

Thanks

You can't change the flight mode from the TX and I have only flown X4.7 and +4.7 so I'm not well versed in the other areas. I know that Lazy Zero has an "acro" mode in the firmware but haven't tried it yet either.

I got it all setup and running good, thanks. Does anyone know if the FMA co-pilot II can be installed and used with the KK board?

I don't think FMA works with it. Hobbyking is coming out with a KK board with accelerometers for only 30 dollars so a copilot won't even be necessary.

I think you are referring to the KK2. I have one on order.

Yes I am and I have one ordered also. At 30 dollars for KK reliability with accelerometer it should be a really great board
