Default MVVS 49 and 51 differences and similarities.

Hi,
Is there any difference in capacity between the 49 (or '8'cc) and the 51 RIRE engines?

Or was it that the company simply wanted to distinguish between the two and thus labelled the boxes differently to keep the two idenities seperate.

It would seem that the factory brochure that I have on the 49 does indeed list a rear intake (RI) possibilty but the lower casting is obviously vastly different to accomodate this change - as would be the crankshaft.

Thanks.

The difference is obviously about 0.4cc.

They are different engines altogether. MVVS has made several versions for CL stunt, both with rear rotary valve and front rotary valve. None is produced to this date. The rear rotary valves are no longer available, but the front induction cranks for the 8cc still are.

Thanks for the reply Pe, my question was looking rather lonely there all by itself!

I do have coming to me soon a new piston/con rod/liner for the 49 so I should be able to use a micrometer on it and check it against the 51 my friend has to confirm this.

Its just that I heard it was a marketing excersize by the company saying that they were 'different' and yet used the same swept volume, and thus used the same piston and liner to streamline manufacturing costs.

The 51 RIRE is a very good control line stunt engine and if I could buy one today I would.

Cheers.

If you have the .51, what are the numbers on the mounting lugs?

They tell the story of production dates.

Hi Pe,
The 51 is my friends engine so bear with me and I will ask him what his numbers are (please see attached pic).

Its just going to be very handy for my friend and I 'if' the liners and pistons are the same.

By the way, all of the engines I refer to are pre CNC time at MVVS and so are hand assembled.

Thanks Pe.

Inow have the opportunity to measure up the 51 and the 49 liners this weekend now that I have my new 49 liner in hand.

Also seen the MVVS 51 marked as
<style type="text/css"></style> 8,0cc GRR-ABC-Acrobat CL-Stunt (liner has item number <style type="text/css"></style> 3080) and the MVVS 49 marked as <style type="text/css"></style> 8,0cc GFS/R-ABC-Acrobat CL-Stunt (liner has item number <style type="text/css"></style> <style type="text/css"></style> 3077A ) so it remains to be seen if they are simply different in name and size.

Get back to you in a few days mate.

After looking at both liners the 51 has what looks like a longer stroke than that of the 49 but the internal diameters are both the same - and the ports are very much different.

The stamped numbers on the 51 will have to wait until my friend unbolts his engine from the model and who knows when that might be!

Cheers.

Hi Pe´,
I have my own MVVS 51 now and the numbers under my mounting lugs are '0' on one side and '67' on the other and it originally came from Carlson Imports in the States.

Thanks.

I have the MVVS GRR 3080 engine. It has the following stamped markings on the bottom of each lug, P 16. Can you give me more info on the designation of the letter and number? The box I have it it as it came to me has 8.5 on it so I was assuming it was a .51. Any info would be great.
