Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
I'm going to be running a Moki/Mark 1.35. This is one of the few remaining engines that can be reversed by simply turning the front half of the crankcase 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Doing that allows you to run normal rotation props. Finding a high pitch pusher prop in sizes for 1.20 and larger engines is virtually imposible. APC props for the Moki range from 14x12 to 15x12, for top speeds just slightly over 100. And static thrust a little better than 1:1.

I just stuck one of these in mine...

Notice the price.
I have not flown it yet so I don't know how it will behave.

I suspect it will not be a speed demon, unlike your competition combo which I bet is nice.
I will be attempting to keep the weight down to offset the smaller engine.

Not competition. I just think a 60 mph Falcon would be "wrong" somehow.
The Moki runs really well at half throttle too.
BTW, I and several buddies have GMS 1.20s and they are very nice engines. Turns a 16x6 at just under 10,000 peaked out on a Bisson pitts muffler. But of course that is in a tractor configuration.

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
I should have the plane tomorrow (Thursday). I notice the OS 1.60 is also a popular choice, is it safe to say the 1.60 will give me the most speed??? (aside from putting a turbine in it)
Thanks!
Thanks!

I also been looking at putting a OS 160 on this bird. Here is a video of a Falcon 120 with an OS 1.08. Look like it moves pretty good in the air. I email the guy about what prop he used, but he did not respond

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
Hi there! I last had a radio controlled plane when I was about 12 or 13 for about a year before it came to a very sorry end! I saw a few vidoes on utube a few days ago and though its time to get back into it, things have come along way from then. Im 30 now so ive decided to order the falcon 120 and im going to put a Fuji Imvac BT-86 86cc twin cylinder engine 7.5hp on it. After about 4 months of getting used to flying im going to up grade to a Wren 54 Mk 4 the 18lbs thrust turbine. (will probably be on my tird or fourth airframe by then) I will be getting an engineering company to make a engine mount or bracket to mount te engine. I would like to kmow wich push propeller I should put on this baby!
Got a good job and im single so no real bills to pay so will be willing to spend reasonble money on this BUT!
Does anyone think I am mad for even concidering to put one off these engines on the back off this, I saw a video of the falcon 120 with a 1.20 glow engine and it flew well so I would expect this engine to be a really good job.
PS I would really be glad off all advice as I said this is going to be the 1st ive attempted the other plane was bought by my father for a christmas present and he built it and it was completely basic.

I should easily get quite a bit more RPM's this way and the engine should unload just fine...

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
Here`s how I powered my Falcon 120 EDF converston and also as an electric pusher prop. I did a lot of mods to the airframe which are not nessesary. The power system info and videos are all listed in the thread. The prop version turned a 10/7 prop at 18k rpm. Speeds were well over 100mph. I lost #1 to aileron flutter, but no probs with #2. I`ve since sold it to a guy from Tulsa.

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
I recently finished one for a club raffle and I installed a YS 140DZ. I have also seen it fly with 10 to 13 lb turbines, with some small mods' to accomodate the added thrust and 64 oz of fuel. They flew beautifully! All were equiped with Spring-Air retracts. The suggested tank installation shown on the "plans"??? is backwards!!!! The front of the tank goes forward.....clunk to the rear or expect a very short flight!

RE: Super Falcon 120 - engine choices??
Tried the Falcon 120 with an OS AX120 Special and a Master Airscrew 14x7 3 blade pusher. No speed demon. Wanting to try a large outrunner electric pusher prop conversion. One big limiting factor is that anything over 14 inches will have ground and tail boom clearance problemts. This is about a 14 lb plane wet and with retracts. What motor/battery combo would work here? Wish there was a better selection of props out there for pusher applications.
