I don't have this particular model, but with others, if the servo cutout seems too long, it is because there is a recess for the servo itself.

In other words the screws are recessed under the fuse/wing. This makes the cutout appear larger than what you might expect.

To play it safe, start cutting from the center, until you can see the screw mounting blocks to understand what you must do.

okay this may sound stupid but how do you make the covering look neat if the servo is recessed?

Cut the square neatly!

My Extra 300S has this setup and it looks and works fine.

However it would have been nice to get a servo "bubble" with the plane to cover the servo up, leaving only the horns exposed.

I wonder if anyone sells them seperately?

Your best bet is to cut just inside the area you need to remove.

Leave just a little covering ( about 1/8" ) on each of the sides of the rectangle.

Form a lip with the excess covering, which you can CA "down" into the recess.

This prevents the covering from coming up over time.

In the picture below the black box represents the servo cut out. The red lines represent were to cut. When complete use a trim iron to neatly tuck away the excess and adhear it to the internal structure of the wing. This will help prevent the covering from pulling away from the area as well.

Don't the fine instructions you get with a Nitro Plane show you how to do this? Oh forgot NITRO means No Instuctions to well the R and O means something to go with that lol.

It scares me that people buy 50cc aircraft and struggle to cut out a servo opening.
Not to offend this individual, similar post happen daily, and online help is usually nearby.I am just concerned of how the rest of the build may go.Its common of the new generatin of ARF assemblers.

Well to defend myself, I have only bought Great Planes and Hangar 9 kits in the past and the directions were always excellent and the kits already had this part done (the sevo slots were the correct size), so instead of just hacking into my new airplane I thought it wouldn't hurt to get some info on it. By the way this is my first 50cc aircraft and I want to make sure I do everything right. I am sure that the rest of my build will be just fine.

You may not have tried to offend me, but you did. It is comments like that, that make people not ask questions. The only stupid question is the one not asked.

I noticed the same thing on my new Extra 300S. I plan on covering the recessed servo's with some sign vinyl leaving the servo post/arm to be the only thing protruding, as I figured it'd keep whatever foriegn garbage out of those obvious holes & from within the wing itself.

Got the servos in just fine, I appreciate all the help on this minor subject. I just didn't want to start hacking into my new plane without some knowledge first.

Great!

Do the "instructions" show a support strut on your plane for the tail?

Just curious.

Heh... right.

You should see what comes with KMP and other larger Asian ARF's...

You get just a sheet, which looks like a parts breakout...

It does have the C.G., but no throws, instructions, etc.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

So far so good, I do think I am missing something for the rear tail wheel assembly. There is nothing that came with the kit that connects the tail wheel to the rudder. I figured it would have the double springs, but nothing. I will probably change it out anyway. I still need to by the aileron servos, motor and two batteries. I will probably get the servos and batteries off of Ebay and the motor is gonna have to wait until after Christmas, but other than that all that is left is finishing.

I'll bet you merely got the "bent wire" tail wheel.

You are supposed to bend it out 90 degrees and insert it into the rudder...

Forgo all of this though...

I'd suggest one of these:

The GP Tail Wheel Assembly Available via this link: [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLLB9&P=7]Tail Wheel Link![/link]

Easy to install, it comes WITH the aluminum wheel and costs... well click the link!

It's only $1.89!!!! Yea, all I got was the bent wire, but that one you showed me looks pretty nice. I appreciate the info. Do you know where I could get some of those linkage covers that is on the side of your plane in the pic?

Good job opjose your help did indeed help this man out. Hope he has many great flights. Got to keep you on your toes you know. My axe got a little dull while in Houston. But with your help I will get her sharpened up. Glad he has the apptitude to build a 50cc plane without much inst. I would be worried like a cat in a rocking chair store if I were to try that size plane without good inst. Good job sir Nitro ain't so bad right now the way the economy is going. Might have to eat crow one day if things keep going the way they are. Hope not cause i have had to eat it before and man the taste stays with you lol. Again congrats on your new plane going well.

Thanks for the kind words kid chuckles, so far not any really big complaints with the nitro planes model. There are a few things that could be done better, but you find that in just about any ARF these days.

opjose and I are of two different minds as to what a good tail wheel is. I prefer the Sullivan for ease of instalation and durability. We do agree that the stock assemblies that come with these arfs are good for stirring epoxy though.

A bit more expensive but I believe they are worth it.
