Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
Does anybody know if the Edge 540 .40 size on Nitroplanes.com is tail heavy or not? I'm planning buying it as a home for my OS 46 two stroke.
http://www.nitroplanes.com/edge-540-red-bull-blue.html
Any information would be appreciated!

cp,
ive ordered several times and have never had a problem, im getting tired of people with no or 1 order with them saying dont buy.
if you have done your research you will know that john is on here and is more than helpfull with anything you need including giving guys things they really should be paying for !!
just read the threads here and remeber WITH THE LOWER PRICE, YOU GET LESS SERVICE FROM THE WEB SITE AS MOST OF THERE STAFF DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH
if you do have a problem john is always here to make it right.

RE: Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
I'm with you bassmanh!!! I've followed this thread for quite a while & it seems most of the negative comments come from people that read one or two posts & felt that it makes them an expert !! I feel that John does one heck of a job. I know I'll catch h#@@ for this but, guys if you want a perfect, RTF plane then go pay $200. to $400. or more for one & get your "perfect don't have to do nothing plane !!!!! Nitro sells "ARFs" AlMOST READY TO FLY!!!!!!!! If you need that "immediate customer service thing" then go to your LHS. I would like to see all the guys that have had good service from Nitro or had John help out on a problem post on this thread.

To answer the original poster:
No if the C.G. is at the indicated mark or just in front of it the plane will NOT be Tail Heavy...
But!!!
- CAVEAT - CAVEAT - CAVEAT! -
-
At this position the plane will be C.G. NEUTRAL, which is great for 3D, but hard for a novice flyer.
I would recommend moving the C.G. about 1/2 of an inch FORWARD of the forward most tick mark indicated.
Even then it will be fairly pitch sensitive with high throws, so make sure you use expo.
You can always move the C.G. backward after your first flights.
Better to deal with only one thing on a new plane at a time...
e.g. trimming it out...
Than having to contend with multiple things at once!

RE: Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
Thank you all for your responses! What I was looking for is a response to my question, which is: Is this plane tail heavy? To be more precise: Will I have to add weight in the front to make the CG correct?
I've had a 50cc Katana from Nitromodels and I had to add more than a pound of weight in the front and then it was still tail heavy. A friend of mine has 2 planes from nitroplanes.com (those were CMPro 46 size fiber glass fuselage planes, one an Extra and the other one a Yak, can't remember the exact types) and they also needed significant weight in the front to make them fly properly.
I would expect to be able to set the CG right by moving the battery around and then maybe add a tiny bit of weight to balance it.
So my question is: Does anybody know if this plane (Red Bull Edge 540 .40 size on nitroplanes.com) needs significant weight added in the nose to get the CG right? I'm not saying that all planes on nitroplanes.com are tail heavy, I just want to know if this one is, as 3 out of 3 planes that I flew (one of my own and 2 of my friend's) were way overweight because they needed so much weight in the front, which is not good for a 3D plane.
Thank you!

RE: Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
Short answer NO. No significant weight....
Long answer...
I have over 30 Nitroplanes ARF's.
I've never had to add an undue amount of weight to get any plane to balance.
Typically if the C.G. comes out too far back, I either move the engine itself a bit forward in the mount, move the battery pack into the cowl area, and move any tail servos into the main part of the fuselage.
Usually there is SOMETHING you can do to move the C.G. to where you want or need it without adding a significant amount of weight.
With a couple of light engines ( such as the Saito's ) I've had to do all of the above and maybe put a 2oz spinner weight right on the nose for best effect.
Putting the added weight as far forward as possible has more impact than adding weight to say the firewall.

i have a spare os .52fs on the shelf is this a good match for spirited sport flying or can someone recommend an edge or an extra that would be a good fit?

I just got a Zlin -50 from Nitro & by looking that would be a great fit. Comparing it to an edge or extra the look like they would fly very similar. Contrary to a lot of the posts here I have had nothing but good luck with Nitro.

Do you mind compiling a list of planes that you have flown and are currently available on Nitroplanes.com? That would be awesome!

RE: Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
I only have a couple that I fly & I bought them on Ebay. ,a 51" wsp PoleCat( it's a rocketship) & an Extra 330L. Both fly really well, no bad habits that I've found. I just bought a Zlin 50 on the Black Friday sale. I doubt if I get around to building it till next spring. If you want to be impressed with the number of Nitro Planes, get OPJOSE to list his. I think he has over 30 !! He knows as much about them as John does. I would like to see that list myself.

RE: Nitroplanes Edige 540 .40 size
Hey guys I posted a build thread on page 1, for the edge540 redbull. Check it out, I think you can find what what you are looking for. It's under edge 540t 40.. It's like the 6th or 7th listing at the beggining of this forum.. Hope this helps. Also I think that if you use the .46 you would be disappointed with its performance. BLUE SKIES!!!!!

IMHO 20-24% of the MAC measured at the wing root is best, but you can go further back for better 3D moves.
Note that the Edges have a tendancy to tip stall when the C.G. is further back .
