51.5" p-38 cog Where to measure?
My instructions are vague about where the center of gravity is located on my 51.5" p38... it says 3" behind the leading edge measured at the top wing centerline...it shows a side profile with two verticle lines and the 3inches it should measure between them...but you cant discern if it is to be measured next to the center pod, the inside of the nacelle or the outside of the nacelle.....since the wing gets narrower going outward it would be nice to know where along the wing you are to take your measurement...a top down view would have left no doubt.

RE: 51.5
C.G.'s are normally given as the following
- distance from the leading edge of the wing, measured at the wing root
- distance from the leading edge of the wing, measured at some distance from the centerline of the airframe
- distance from the leading edge of the wing centerline, measured at the airframe centerline
The instructions cite the latter in your case.
Your wings join at the airframe centerline. Measure 3" from the center of the wings and you are good to go.
To be sure, eyeball it. The C.G. should appear to be in the front third or even more forward of the wing root chord.
Anything forward of this WILL fly and land.
Anything backward of this is iffy.
