Smoking Brushless EZ Hawk enginejust gets hot and smokes
Folks,
Just got an EZ Hawk in the mail. Checking everything before assembly. Hooked up the motor. Spun fine for about 15 seconds, then became erratic, then stopped all together, got extremely hot and began to smoke. Switched wires, same thing, nothing...began to smoke. Charged battery fully, changed wires again...nothing, motor again just got hot and started to smoke.
Is there something really wrong with the motor and I should call customer service?
Or is it just an issue that can be easily fixed by some good advice?
gale155, opjose...any thoughts?
Thanks in advance everyone,
HKL

Anytime that magic smoke escapes from an electric engine plane, it is time to immediately disconnect everything and NOT try running it again until the problem is found and fixed.
You may have had a magnet break off, fouling the motor. The fix is easy enough ( a new motor ) but by attempting to run the motor again you may have caused further damage taking out the ESC in turn.
WIth an electric any erratic operation needs to be looked at ASAP.
The upside is that the EZ Hawk motor and ESC is fairly standard and easy to replace.

Thanks opjose, you da man!
Should I send the motor and fuselage back? Or should I pack the entire thing up and send back?
