Default os 48 compression loss

Bill:

I experienced compression loss on an os 48. It came on suddenly.
It must be related to the intake valve not closing. With the valve cover off, if I add finger pressure to the push rod side of the rocker arm (I hope that's what it's called), compression is restored. This may last through several manual rotations, quite a few if you do not tip the engine from the vertical. Tipping the engine triggers compression loss.

Something in the cam???? (This engine has 13 seasons of use). Thanks for your time.

You'd have to disassemble the engine to see what's wrong. A cam follower could be sticking, the valve stem could be sticking, you could have a broken valve springs, and so on. Only a disassembly and careful look will answer the problem.
