Default OS FS 48 Surpass

Hello Bax I have a 48 Surpass I bought on Ebay, and boy does it need some work I know this engine has been dicontinued. Is it worth sending in for service? Are there still parts available in plenty for this engine? I would work on it some myself if you told me the best way to get the piston liner out lol. I don't want to damage it.

Happy holidays

To remove the cylinder liner, you need to remove the cylinder head. The liner will slide straight up. You remove the wrist pin from the piston through the hole in the back of the case. The rest follows easily.

Already tried that. I could not get it to budge, what should I use to persuade it? Also I took the screws out of the cam cover, but it would not budge either. Is there some trick to that as well?

Happy holidys

If the cylinder liner's stuck in the case, then you may have to heat the case to free it. Sometimes carefully prying it up from below also helps. You need to make sure you don't 'ding' the liner.

If the cylinder head bolts are so tight you can't get them out, then the only solution may be to drill off the heads. We've had to do that on occasion when the hex heads get stripped. Make sure your hex key is new and sharp, and is the proper size. Only metrics will work, and you'll need a 2mm, 2.5 mm, and 3mm keys for most engine work.
