I have an OS 1.08 that although has given me good service I recently compared it with a new YS 1.10 and there is a great difference in power, the YS being much more powerful than the OS with the same prop (APC 15-8), at first I thought that it was because I fly at 7,200 ft. and the YS is supercharged giving it an advantage but I dissembled the OS and noticed that the liner has a vertical scratch in the wall apposite to the exhaust, I remembered that one day it went lean and overheated so I beleive that this is the problem, I am going to order anew piston ring and liner and want to ask you if generally is necessary to change also the piston or just the ring and liner and the best way to install the new ring, I don't want to send the engine to you because shipping costs would be too much.

Most of the time, the piston doesn't need to be replaced when we replace a ring and liner, unless it's very worn or damaged.

When you replace a piston ring, lay it on the top of the piston, and then gently work it down over the piston, starting at the ring gap. You'd just push one end over the side and then work around the piston, a little bit at a time. You can usually get the ring in the groove with little effort, and no breakage. Make sure the gap in the ring lines with the pin in the ring groove.
