MY PLANE CRASHED AND SOME DIRT WENT INTO THE NOSE. I TOOK THE ENGINE APART, BUT FORGOT WHICH WAY THE BACK PLATE GOES ON. THERE IS A PART THAT STICKS OUT, DOES THIS GO UP OR DOWN. ALSO WASH IS THE BEST THING TO DO TO WASH THE ENGINE OUT WITHOUT SUBJECTING IT TO RUST? THANKS

Earl,
By far the best thing to do is send it to the service center and let them do a complete check up and repair, and reassembly for you as well. We can't recommend any specific products for doing an engine flush. You might want to reask your question in the general engine forum.

If you look inside the rear cover, you'll find a flat spot on the portion that fits into the crankcase. This flat spot goes towards the cylinder. It provides clearance for the bottom of the piston skirt when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke.
