If you tune your engines carefully for higher nitro, you can run 'as high as you like'....I know of competition modelers running 50% and more! However, more nitro means your engine must be tuned more carefully and is in more danger of running lean, and more damage when it does, so always be sure to tune very carefully.
In general, 25% nitro is as high as we recommend the average modeler use which is a good balance of power, ease of tuning, and price.

I personally only run 2 plugs in all my aircraft engines -- #8 for 2 stroke and Type F for 4 stroke. A #8 has never let me down even in very high nitro installations.
