OS 160 FX setup
Splat,
We prop the engine to turn in the mid 8,000's. An APC 16x10 will turn about 8,500-8,600 RPM. An 18x10 will turn about 7,900 RPM.
We hope you find this information helpful. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at this email address. (Please be sure to copy all previous emails into any future questions.)

NO high pitch props
Since this airplane will be setup mostly for 3-D, I am interested in vertical pulling power, not top end speed. Props will be limited to 6 or 8 pitch. Many people are running an APC 18x6W (Fun Fly) on the 160FX and turning 9000 - 9300 rpm on the bench. Will this likely cause premature damage to the engine. Should I try an APC 20x6 to get the rpm down in the mid 8k's ?

Your best torque band is in the mid-8,000's. You can use any diameter and pitch prop that works. More diameter and flatter pitch will help the static thrust, which is the main concern for hover and acceleration.
You can run the engine in the 9,000's, and it should be OK. Remember, O.S. states that this engine's RPM limit is 10,000 RPM, so the closer you get to that, the shorter the life the engine may eventually have.

Try and See
Okay, Thanks for your replies. I am going to try the APC 18x6W first because I already have one. But I will also try either a Zinger Pro 20x6 or an APC 20x6 to see what results I get. I really want to get 18 lbs of thrust or more from this engine.
