Default OS52 Hole in crankcase

I have an OS52 and have noticed a hole behind the carb at the rear of the crankcase. This is to allow removal of the gudgeon pin from the piston when dismantling the engine.
While the 'hole' is sealed by the cylinder liner internally, I wondered whether there should be some kind of seal on the outside?

No seal is needed for the hole in the case that's used to remove the wrist pin. The engine doesn't use a sealed crankcase like two-stroke engines do, so even if there's a small amount of leaking, it would not affect the engine's operation.
