Default 120 III pump rpm's

I've just got a second hand 120 III with pump,
I'm getting about 8400 rpm with APC 16x6 and Wildcat 15%
Engine works fine.

Is this about normal ?

The RPM sounds low. We use an APC 15 x 8 and see about 9,300-9,400 RPM or so. Something's not right with your engine.

I have a similar problem on one of 120s could it be the low idle needle setting ?

The O.S. FS-120 Surpass III has a carburetor with a separate idle needle. If you look into the carb when it's opened to full throttle, you can see the needle and the nozzle. At full throttle, there should be a 3-4 mm gap between them at an initial setting.

The FS-120 Surpass I and II engines had a different idle circuit, and the idle mixture screw did not affect top-end running.
