O.S. 91 FX Help !!!!
I have an OS 91 FX that I put on an airplane designed for a 60. It was way overpowered so the engine for the most part had VERY easy running. I did the occasional vertical climb at full throttle, but it was run 1/2 throttle most of the time
One day it started to quit on me [X(] Every flight it will run up fine but quit as soon as it gets in the air. I tried cleaning the needle, making sure the fuel tank setup was still good etc. etc. I finally pulled the head off and could detect a small vertical gouge in the cylender [:@] Would that cause the engine to run fine but quit in the air ? Could it be a broken ring ? Why would this happen to an ALMOST NEW engine that was has never touched the ground or even broken a prop ??? What should I do ?

When an engine quits in the air, it's usually because it's either not set correctly, or it's going lean and overheating. There are a number of causes for an engine going lean, even if the needle was set on the rich side.
Without seeing the engine, we'd not know what the difficulty may be. If an engine has a accidental lean run, then it could have a partila seizure and break a ring. A foreign object getting into the engine can get stuck between the piston and the liner, gouging it.
As you can see, there can be a number of other causes, too.
Your best bet is to send it in for service.

If there is a slight gouge in the cylender, would that cuase it to quit in flight after a minute or two ? It runs GREAT for a minute in flight then its like someone just turns off the switch and it stops, no sputtering, nothing, just stops DEAD....
