OS Max 40 H
Hi Bax,
A friend has an old OS Max 40 H or H 40, whichever is the correct nomenclature. It has no provision for bolt-on muffler or bolt-thru muffler mounting.
Is there a clamp-on or strap-on muffler available for this engine?
Also, the engine very badly needs new bearings--old bearings are really rusty.
As you know, this is a ringed engine; the piston/ring/cylinder seem to be usable but we were wondering if there are any parts available for the engine.
Thanks for your time,
Jim Oliver

RE: OS Max 40 H
As far as O.S. or we are concerned, no parts for your old O.S. Max H-40F are available. You'd have to find them through one of the hobby retailers that find parts for the engine collectors' market.
If the part numbers from the very old parts list are for the same part, then the rear bearing would be:
OSMG3076 22130004 MID BEARING 120-240 $20.99
The front bearing is no longer stocked.
You can measure your bearings and order new ones from any of the bearing suppliers who advertise in the model magazines.
A muffler would have to be a clamp-on style, but would not be an O.S. Muffler. They went out of production a long time ago. You would have to check with the third-party makers to see if there's anything you can do. It would not be too difficult, though, to adapt a bolt-on muffler and use a piece of hose clamp to hold it onto your engine. A bit of careful work with a Dremel-type tool, and you cold make the muffler fit closesly to the exhaust stack of the engine.
