Default OS 160 twin spinner

I am trying to put a spinner on a 160 Gemini twin. The prop jam nut is a long "sleeved" 12mm nut. Does this mean I have to drill the spinner backplate out to allow this nut to pass thru it?

In other words, the sleeved nut passes thru the prop and the spinner backplate?

Thanks

The sleeved nut should not pass through the spinner backplate. It should not go all the way through the propeller, but stop short of that point.

The crankshaft only passes thru the prop about 1/8 inch. There is not enough thread to lock the prop down. I am using a 18-6 zinger. Are you sure the nut does not pass thru the prop?

I'll post a pic to make sure I'm explaining correctly.

Thanks

Here are some pics.

As you can see with the spinner backplate on the stud does not come thru the prop.

No...the long nut DOES go through the propeller, but would not contact a spinner backplate. Just thread it on and tighten it down. Of course, you DO need to use the prop washer.

It will not lock down the prop with the spinner backplate on. It misses by about 2 revolutions. I guess I do have to drill out the back plate.

To bring this to a conclusion...

Prop drilled out to 12mm and spinner backplate drilled out to 12mm. It all locked down nicely.

Where do I send my resume? Just kidding

Thanks for your help

Your propeller is a bit thinner than many...normally, the addition of a spinner backplate would not cause a problem. We'd bet that you'd have the same difficulty securing the propeller with no spinner backplate. The thin prop would allow the long nut to contact the drive washer before it was fully tightened.
