OS FS-26S hard to start
Hi!
I'm having some trouble with my FS-26.
When cold, and after soaking it by closing the choke (it likes to be wet for starting), the engine usually fires in less than 10 flips.
But, after i run it for a while and shut it down by pinching the fuel line, and try to start it again, i can't reach hydro-lock or something similar, no matter how much fuel i pump, nor can i feel much compression. If i flip the engine a couple of times it revs then dies, less than a second, and fuel spurts from both the rear vent and from the front bearing.
It turns a Radio Active Mfg (RAM) 10x6 prop at 6200rpm (better be rich than lean!) and it has less than 1 hour of running time, even though i have it for 4 years. I don't hear a hiss from the valves on compression, so they must be correctly set.
Thank you very much for your kind attention on this problem of mine

RE: OS FS-26S hard to start
The engine reaches higher rpm with a Graupner 9x6.
Unfortunately, it's hard to start when hot, the compression is there, but even a 280 electric motor could turn the engine when hot, it's minimal and i can't reach hydro-lock.
I've reset the valve clearances. When running at full throttle i can hear fluctuations on the engine speed. I'm runnning a pressurized tank, and the main needle is set at 1 3/4 ~ 2 turns open.
Thank you for your help

RE: OS FS-26S hard to start
It would be difficult to say what could cause hard starting. If the engine is set too rich, then it will be difficult to start. We've run that engine with a 9 x 4 or 9 x 6 propeller. You want it to run at about 10,000 RPM when it's at full-throttle and leaned to just rich of peak RPM. Hard starting when the engine is hot could mean that the compression fit of the piston, ring, and cylinder liner is bad. There can be a large number of reasons for that. The valves may not be sealing properly, there may be a problem in starting technique, the fuel could have a problem, the glow plug may be bad, the starter battery may be weak, and so on.
There can be any number of reasons your engine is hard to start. It would take some careful checking by someone who's very experienced with engine operation and repair.
