Default OS 52 HEADGASKET?

I have an OS 52 4-stroke that i am putting new bearings in. When i dissassembled the engine there was not the thin aluminum head gasket that is listed in the parts listing for it. Were some without them from the factory?

Very likely, the gasket is there. If you look carefully, you'll see that the gasket is very close-fitting inside the groove in the cylinder head. If you use a very sharp #11 blade's tip, or a very sharp needle, you can get it out. We've NEVER seen an O.S. engine come from the factory without the gasket....and that's after nearly 30 years of O.S. service!
