What is the difference between Surpass and Pre-Surpass 4s .70 engines. Is it just performance? Weight? I know it's probably a "dumb" question but I am new to the hobby and haven't heard the comparison.

There never was a non-Surpass FS-70. When O.S. developed the Surpass-series of engines, the timing, port sizes, and bore/stroke ratios were changed a bit over the original FS engines to increase the RPM and power output.
